Last year they never came, and there was only a year’s supply. Finally, the year before. A few times I got enough, washed, and refilled. But no luck; no hummingbirds have stopped sucking from my feeder. But this year I’m prepared and armed with a hummingbird of wisdom. Here are ten tips I learned about hummingbird feeders that have been doing poorly in the past year.
Tip # 1: Attract white color
My hummingbird feeder faded in the sun of year one. Direct sunlight stole the deep red color that would attract hummingbirds. Since I didn’t have any flowers in the backyard where I placed them, I had to do everything attracting hummingbirds by myself. It was too much pink nursing to get old. This year calls for a shiny new red one.
Tip #2: The Sun Room
Not only did direct sunlight fade the hummingbird feeding, but it stimulated the growth of the hummingbird feeding inside the mold. Despite several attempts to clean the container before filling it, he never got it quite right.
Consumer #3: Wash and Rinse Correctly
Getting all the black spots out of my hummingbird satiety was vital to attracting hummingbirds. Needless to say, my cleaning job was inadequate. They eat about half their weight every day, and it is not known how much dye is too much for such a bird. I could tie a red ribbon or bandanna in the saturation to bring in the color.
Consumer #5: Make Nectar Right
One part table sugar (only) to four parts water is the hummingbird nectar recipe. Some show one to three springspring with few flowers first. The nectar is boiled for 2 minutes on the top of the stove – boiling off any chlorine and dissolve the sugar. Then it is cooled and stored in a sanitized glass bottle in the refrigerator. Plastics leach; so avoid using a plastic container. Using a glass bottle with a small neck makes filling the hummingbird much easier.
tip #6: fill it up or half-full
Hummingbird was my big feeder and I filled it. A full satiety created a vacuum which he held by dripping with an inverted bottle. But he made me believe that I could leave while he had nectar in him. Leaving it for weeks encouraged mog-sporae to grow and pull the birds off. A half full filling would have been a better choice.
I had to change the bandage every 3 days on the hottest days, rather than the usual 4 days. I don’t even get to the middle of it.
Tip #7: Keep the guards clean
The bee, wasp, and ant guards that came with the hummingbird feeders were also thoroughly cleaned. They had acquired a form for themselves, and there was no other way than to strike the wasps and bees in the foulest forage. I didn’t have any ants, because the food depended on the house ants. The chain hangs satiety and the hungry cats are relaxed from exploring the tasty feathered morsels.
Tip #8: Attract Hummingbirds Safely
Where I placed the satiety of hummingbirds seemed safe enough, but the new patio umbrella and house was cutting off the view for the birds on two sides. They didn’t have full visibility and were probably on board about getting in for food. An open area of the courtyards would have been more appropriate, giving them access and visibility from all sides.
Tip #9: Remember the Insects
Hummingbirds eat insects for protein. All he provided was sugar for energy. This year I put a pot of red geraniums near saturation for two reasons. The color red attracts birds, and geraniums attract spiders.
Tip #10: Hummingbirds are Territorial
Hummingbirds are territorial. If I want to feed more than a few hummingbirds in my area, I need to feed more than one, the shepherds must make the display two weeks before the hummingbirds, and then I must wait patiently for the birds.
