As a former visual kei fan, I understand the overwhelming experience of entering the scene for the first time. The growing popularity of visual kei these days makes it even harder to wade through the sea of artists to find stores. If you’re just getting started, be sure to check out these artists before taking this musical journey further. .
1. 10 Japan
Often credited with inciting the visual kei movement, X Japan is perhaps the most popular group of the genre. They formed in the 80s and have a similar sound to other bands of the time classic-rock. The superb drummer Yoshiki helped organize the Jrock Revolution, a festival that brought Japanese artists to America to perform, as well as a special memorial summit for Japan’s late 10th guitarist, Hideto Matsumoto, which united many Japanese musicians on one stage. 10 Japan helped usher in a new era in Japan’s music scene, and many of today’s visual kei artists would never have been formed without them.
2. Sea Moon
X Japan and Luna are often mentioned in the same context Sea and the two bands have collaborated on several projects and shows. Sea of the Moon’s music is generally softer than 10 Japan, with solid basslines and catchy compositions. Like the 10 members, some members of Sea Moon have their own solo projects, but none are as serious as the signature work. Their visuals have become more subtle over the years, lacking wild hair and makeup, but they still have dedicated fans and current artists who claim them as inspirations.
3. Dir en Grey
Within visual kei, Dir en Gray is clearly the darkest, most ridiculous band. In their origin, the members sported external and gothic style makeup and costumes, but today they take the stage as normal people. And their music is just as dark and contemplative as ever. And this is the link that made the lake all over the world, having and on overseas charts. As far as shows go, Dir en Gray can give the audience an unforgettable live experience beyond all expectations, easily overshadowing those of other bands. Vocalist Kyo stands out from the distance and turns heads in a variety of metal music. Even legends like Slipknot recognized them for doing something completely unique.
4. in Obtutu
Fans rely on GazettE to keep them in the loop and excite their listeners in a range of music and styles. Like Dir en Grey, they often touch on darker subjects, but it’s the quality of mystery and experimentation that makes their work stand out. They can be sad ballads, loud screamo songs, or sick dance tunes, all of which maintain the signature sound of the style. Never predictable and always growing in popularity, this is definitely a band you won’t want to miss.
5. Miyavi
It is difficult to find a visual artist who has worked with more experience than Miyavi. Currently, this man is perfecting his English skills and acting with an odd hand, which includes a boxer, a painter and a dancer. Over the years it has shown a huge change in music and appearance, always looking for areas where it can improve. His spontaneous and fun personality makes him a favorite in visual kei. His ever-changing music makes him watch and enjoy, and chances are he’ll be coming to your country on a world tour of his own.
6. Night vision
While Nightmare still ventured to play in other territories from Japan, this left him alone to go. Everyone is rapidly achieving their goals in the world of music and constantly improving, even when it seems as if they have honed their skills to perfection. This band continues to amaze its audience with its ability to incorporate several genres into rock music, including pop, jazz; dance, and classical As a nightmare species, Guitar Hitsugi is most recognizable among its intricate visual kei spiels, multiple facial piercings, and unique costumes.
7. MUCC
Taking risks isn’t always easy, but MUCC has done it. Named after a character in a children’s show, MUCC, like a nightmare, has carefully wrested all its faults from the start. It’s hard to pin this band’s music down to a specific genre, but fans can always recognize them through Tatsurou’s unique vocals. This is another visual band that has completed around the world, also with Avenged-sevenfold and Bullet My Valentine in Taste of Chaos 2008 .
8. D’espairsRay
Also part of Taste of Chaos 2008, D’espairsRay proved another band willing to experiment and take risks. While perhaps not as experimental as some of the previous bands, D’espairsRay continues to hold its position towards the top of the visual list. They have set up similar bars to the eastern chains, and it will be difficult to overcome them.
9. Versailles – Philharmonic Quintet-
Although relatively new to the visual kei scene, the members of Versailles are all seasoned musicians who make up the immortal aristocratic stage for rock. They play symphonic metal with precise precision and elegance. Vocalist Kamijo ruled, capturing the tones as he interjected impressive guitar solos and fast drum beats. Although the band recently lost their bassist to an unknown illness, they still lean on their beautiful clothes and horror music.
10. Girugamesh
Girugamesh is another overseas favorite, especially in Europe. From one CD to the next, there is a change in their sound, often second. With four members, Girugamesh relies heavily on sounds, rhythms, and more than just guitar solos. Their appearance is not quite as dark as it once was, but this young woman still manages to capture attention around the world.
