What is the longest film sequence ever made? This is an interesting question that most filmmakers in the world ask and wonder about. Some of them will be James-bond-movie”>James Bond, Friday the 13th, or A Nightmare on Elm Street. But do they fit the title?
Well, I’m collecting 25 movies that I consider to be the longest sequels ever made. Films that have been produced & released more than 10 sequels, which I think is aptly called “the longest sequel”. Ok… Here’s another chance for you to guess what is the longest movie sequel ever made? Do I give in? Then you should check this list.
25. Star Trek (11 series
In #25, we come to the legendary Star Trek. Yes, you know because you were a kid. Created by Gene Roddenberry, Star Trek was a long-running television series that ran from 1966 to 1978. Several Star Trek series continued to be made later (Star Trek: The Next Generation (1987- 1994), Deep Space Nine (1993 – 1999), Voyager (1995 – 2001), and Enterprise (2001 – 2005)).
The first Star Trek film was Star Trek: The Motion Picture (1979). It gained success on the box-office chart, leading to five more films featuring the cast of the original television version of Star Trek (William Shatner, Leonard Nimoy , George Takei, DeForest Kelley, and Walter Koenig Star Trek: The Next Generation (Patrick Stewart, Jonathan Frakes, LeVar Burton, and Marina Sirtis) starred in four more films th series – simply called Star Trek – will be released on May 8, 2009 in North America and the UK ).
24. Friday the 13th (12 series
Yeah……Jason Voorhees rocks!!! He stays on #24 with his 12 series of terror. Written by Victor Miller, this smash hit movie franchise has been troubling people around the world for nearly 20 years. The last sequel – Friday the 13th – was released on March 13th and grossed more than US$ 89 million worldwide (while using a US$ 19 million budget).
The first film (Friday 13th – 1980) was produced and directed by Sean S. Cunningham. The story is actually Mrs. Voorhees / Pamela Sue Voorhees (played by Betsy Palmer), the former Crystal Lake cook and Jason’s mother Voorhees. She became furious after Jason drowned his son in a pond because two camp staff were watching their son having sex. The story ended with Alice (Adrienne King) beheading Mrs. Voorhees.
Jason was first seen in Friday the 13th Part 2 (1981). Following this, Jason is revealed to be alive and grown. She stayed in Crystal Lake and guarded it from all intruders.
In Friday the 13thth Part 3 (1982), Jason got a hockey mask – which has become his trademark to this day – and released his anger. He killed and killed without hesitation. 22. Pokemon (12 series
First, it released as a pair of interlink-able Game Boy role playing games. Since becoming the second most successful and profitable video game-based media franchise in the world since 1995, Pokemon has been traded in anime, manga, trades, toy books, films and other media.
The Pokemon movie focuses on the quest for Ash Ketchum (known as Sathoshi in the Japanese version), a Pokemon Master in training. Together with a handful of friends, they travel around the fictional Pokemon world with their Pokemon partners. The first Pokemon movie (Pocket Monster / Pokemon: The First Movie (1998)) begins on Ash’s first day as Pokemon tires. Then follows a series of original games.
The last sequel (12th series) of Pokemon is Pocket Monsters Diamond & amp; The movie Pearl: The Ark, Conqueror of Space Time was just released on December 15, 2008 in Japan.
21. On witchcraft (13 series
Although it’s not a good movie, but I’m really surprised that it already had 13 sequels. The first series of this classic horror films was Witchcraft, in 1988. It was shot by Rob Spere and directed by Anat. Topol, Gary Sloan, Mary Shelley, and Elizabeth Stockton, the movie told about Grace Churchill who has a baby and having some visions stirring in his heart from the burning owls to the stake. After these visions became worse, her husband and the baby moved to her mother-in-law’s house.
The sequel, Witchcraft II: The Temptress continues the story.
All the witchcraft series were made as low-budget movies. But most of them can earn more than US$1 million for each series. Well… not bad for B-Movies so it does. The last sequel – Witchcraft XIII: Chosen Blood – was released in 2006, and seems to be the last of the series.
20. Conan / Case closed (13 series
Also known as Meitantei Conan in Japan, it is the first Japanese detective manga series, written and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama. It has been serialized in Weekly Shonen Sun – a children’s manga magazine in Japan – from 1994 to the present day. The story follows the adventures of Shinichi Kudo / Jimmy Kudo, a prodigious young detective who was inadvertently turned into a child due to poison. Since it gained huge popularity in Japan, it was adapted into an anime series by Tokyo Movie Shinsha. The series has aired in Japan on Animax, Yomiuri TV, and Nippon Television from January 1996 to the present day & more than 530 episodes have been shown.

19. Sherlock Holmes (14 series
I bet you had no idea if Sherlock Holmes had already been in the 14th series. Yes, it is true. It is a Sherlock Holmes series of films, played by Basil Rathbone (as Sherlock Holmes) and Nigel Bruce (Dr. Watson). Together they played Sherlock Holmes in 14 black and white films.
His first film was The Hound of the Baskervilles (1939), in which he became an instant hit. Since then many Sherlock Holmes adventures have been made, it is based on William Gillette’s 1899 play. 2, so most of them openly war events and anti-Nazi themes.
The last sequel to the Sherlock Holmes series was Dressed to Kill (1946).
18. Marx Brothers (16 series
The Marx Brothers were a Jewish-American comedy act. Originally from New York City, they enjoyed success on Broadway and in motion pictures from the early 1900s – 1950s. They have already made a series of 16 films. Thirteen of them were chosen by America Film Institute as among the Top 100 Comedy Movies (two of them – Duck Soap and a night at the Opera – they stayed in the Top Twelve).
The main act was the three older brothers Chico, Harpo, and Groucho. Later they were joined by two younger brothers (Gummo and Zeppo).
The first film, Humor Risk (1921), was never released and is considered a lost film. The second film, Animal Crackers (1930), was a commercial success. The success of their films continued until their last film (the 16thseries), The Mandkind Story (1957).
17. Andy Hardy (16 series
Some of you who live around 1937 – 1960 might remember Andy Hardy. He is a fictional character, Mickey Rooney. Andy is an ambitious young teenager and usually troubled by money or girls. The films showed the relationship between Andy and his father Judge Hardy, who was a man of absolute morality and integrity and a gentle humanitarian with a sense of humor.
Andy Hardy first appeared in A Family Affair (1937). The series ended with Andy Hardy Comes Home (1958). In this movie, Andy returned to civilian life after fighting in World War 2. But it ended when ” To be continued “and never to this day.”
16. Crayon Shin Chan (17 series
Ever since I saw this movie in 1992, I don’t know what made this movie a hit. It has a similar outline to South Park, but the story is more wacky. Many of the jokes were sometimes silly, using inappropriate language and manners. Many non-Japanese viewers and readers found it difficult to understand the jokes.
Crayon Shin-Chan is originally a Japanese manga series written by Yoshito Usui. It tells the story of five-year-old Shinnosuke “Shin” Nohara and his parents, neighbors and friends. His first appearance is in a Japanese weekly magazine – Action Weekly Manga – in 1990. He then made an anime series and aired on TV Asahi from April 13, 1992 to the present day.
The 1st Shin-Chan movie was released in July 1993, called Shin-Chan : Action Kamen vs Haigure Devil. The event was very well done. The same thing happens with all the sequels, including the last series – Crayon Shin-Chan : Otakebe! Kasukabe Animal Kingdom – which just came out in April 2009?
15. James Bond (22
“Bond. James Bond.”
Who does not know this? It comes from the legendary British secret agent, James Bond. With his iconic 007 number and his famous license to kill, James Bond has been entertaining us for more than 20 years now. A fictional character created by Ian Flemming in 1953, he first became known from the novel Casino Royale (1953).
The successful James Bond franchise began in 1962 when Albert R. Broccoli produced Dr. No. With the same title as New Fleming, the film that only made US$900,000 has grossed US$109,600,000 worldwide. and you know the rest. 22 sequels have already been made and 6 actors with this super agent (Sean Connery), George Lazenby, Roger Moore, Timothy Dalton, Pierce Brosnan and Daniel Craig). The 22nd of the James Bond series is Quantum of Solace (2008), a total box office of US$ 515,588,687 worldwide, using a budget of US$ 230,000,000.
14. Zatoichi (series 27)
Zatoichi is a famous fictional character in one of Japan’s longest running film and television series. Created by novelist Kan Shimozawa, Zatoichi is a blind magician and swordsman who roams the countryside making a living gambling and butchering, singing and performing songs. Shintaro Katsu played this character in 26 Zatoichi films from 1962 – 1973 and 1989. He also played four seasons of the television series. For 30 years of his life, Shintaro has played and is known for such a character.
Zatoichi was introduced in his first movie The Story of Zatoichi and The Story of Zatoichi Continues. Both were produced and released in 1962.
After Shintaro died of pharyngeal cancer on June 21, 1997, Takeshi Kitano continued the adventures of Zatoichi in the 27th series simply called Zatoichi (2003).
13. Blondie (28 series
Blondie is a character from the comic strip of the same name, by Murat Bernardo “Chic” Young. It was published in newspapers after September 8, 1930. The first movie – Blondie was produced in 1938. Penny Singleton Blondie Bumstead (since then known and continued in several Blondie sequel series). 12. Godzilla (28 series

After the success of Godzilla, another series of Godzilla comes out soon, such as Godzilla Raids Again (1955), King Kong us Godzilla (1962 ), Mothra vs Godzilla (1964), Ghidorah the three Headed Monster (1964), and others. The last series (28th series) of Godzilla is Godzilla: The Final Battle (2004). All these are produced by Toho Company Ltd, Japan.
Actually in 1998, TriStar Pictures made a Godzilla movie called Godzilla. Matthew Broderick and Jean Reno played in that movie. But with Godzilla fans (as long as it got financial results), no one failed to appreciate it as one of the Godzilla sequels.
11. Doraemon (29 series
Another Japanese manga series was made into a movie. Doraemon is created by Fujiko F. Fujio and successfully translated to an Asian franchise. It’s a story about a robotic cat named Doraemon who travels in time from the 22nd century to help. schol, Nobit The series first appeared in December 1969 and was published simultaneously in six different magazines.
In 1980, Toho Company – a large independent Japanese film studio located in Chiyoda, Tokyo – released the first movie called Doraemon. : Known Dinosaur It is a two-layered weekend. 10. V. (30 series
A long-running series of low budget British comedy films, directed by Gerald Thomas and produced by Peter. Rogers. An energetic mix of parody, mime, slapstick and double entenders. Carry On’s support was a hint of humor and a release of British institutions and customs.
The series began with Carrying on Sergeant (1958). It is a group of recruits in National Service. The film was successful enough that others followed, such as Carry On Nurse (1959), Carry On Jack (1963), Carry On Spying (1964), Carry On Follow The Camel (1968), etc. The final sequel to this long series. i.e. Columbus (1992).
9. Kamen Rider (35 series
Kamen Rider is another famous super hero from Japan. Created by Ishinomori Shotaro, it started as a tokusatsu (super hero genre in Japan) television series from April 1971. The series actually ended on February 1973. But because many people enjoy the series and asked for more, they keep the series. produced in many sequels to this day.
The original Kamen Rider told the story of Takeshi Hongo, an ordinary young man who enjoyed riding his motorbike, who was kidnapped by the Shocker, a mysterious terrorist organization. Meanwhile, another Kamen Rider movie – considered the 36th of the series – Kamen Rider Decade Movie: All Knights vs The Great Shocker will open in Italian theaters on August 8, 2009.
8. Charles Chan
For some in America, Charlie Chan is a famous Chinese-American detective. Created by Count Derr Biggers, he appeared in six books that were published from 1925 – 1932.
Charlie Chan’s first film was called The House Without a Key (1926), which was taken from the first novel by Biggers. Starring Gierge Kuwa (as Chan) and produced by Pathe Studios, the movie somehow got lost. The same went for the second film, The Chinese Parrot (1926) which was also lost.
The third film, Behind the Curtain (1929), was produced by Fox Studio and the first film that had been released to a worldwide audience. Another Charlie Chan movie and sequel follows after that. The last sequel to this movie is Charlie Chan and the Curse of the Dragon Queen (1981), played by Peter Ustinov.
7. Otoko Wa Tsurai Yo / Tora San (48 series
I am silently amazed with this movie. It is not about how many installments have already been considered in the Guinness Book of World Records. as the longest running film series in the world. But we must speak of the history of these series. They all had the same fundamentals of the series. Tora-san, a foreign salesman came to a remote village to sell his wares to the locals. No, I’m not talking about three guns. This is The Three Mesquiteers, a famous series of B-movies that were released between 1936-1943. The series was made in 51 series. Among those long series, 8 of them starred John Wayne.
Released in September 1936, The Three Mesquiters was about three friends – Stony Brooke (Bob Livingston), Tuscon Smith ( Ray Corrigan), and Lullaby Joslin (Sid Saylor) – who prevents the Russians from taking over Northern California. Less action and lots of laughs, this movie was a financial success. Soon, the result of this film – Ghost-town Gold (1936) – released and got another success. And more sequels followed, such as Roarin’ Lead (1936), Trigger Trio (1937), and others. The last sequel – Riders of the Rio Grande – was released in 1943.
5. Emmanuel (series
I don’t feel comfortable including this movie on the chart. But… hey. This movie has credibility and deserves to stay on my chart.
For those of you who don’t know what this movie is, Emmanuelle is a series of French softcore romantic movies. The first movie – titled I, Emmanuelle – was released in 1969. No one noticed the film until its sequel – Emmanuelle (1974) – was released. Directed by Just Jaeckin and starring Dutch actress Sylvia Kristel, it became a hit and became one of the most successful French films of all time. The story of this movie is based on the novel Emmanuelle : The Joy of Women (written by Emmanuelle Arsan).
Emmanuelle’s last sequel is Emmanuelle Tango which he released in 2006. Meanwhile, another sequel to Emmanuelle’s plan was to be implemented in September 2008. However, until this chart was made, I received no further update on this matter.
4. Hopalong Cassidy (series 66)
It is a popular cowboy-hero story, created by Clarence E.Mulford in 1904. Since then he has appeared in novels, television series, and movies. There are 66 film series that were produced from 1935-1948 and all of them were directed by William Boyd Bill “Hop-Along” Cassidy. The first series is called Hop-Along Cassidy which aired two seasons. The Amazing Gamble (1948) is the 66th series and the last of the Hopalong Cassidy series in the theater, after it was made into a television series in the 1950s.
3. Tarzan (89 series
Well… for those of you who don’t know Tarzan, go back to your kindergarten class. I read this story ever since I was there. The fictional character created by Edgar Rice Burroughs has been known since 1912.
The story about a kid raised by animals and soon becoming the king of the jungle was made into a movie in 1918. At least 89 Tarzan movies were made from 1918 – 2008. The first film – Tarzan the Bee (1918) – was a silent picture adapted from the original Tarzan novels, which appeared six years after the creation of the character. Gordon Griffith was the first person to star in Tarzan movies. Since then about 8 movies were silent pictures until 1928. Four of them were directed by Elmo Lincoln, and the others were played by Gene Pollar (1 sequel), Frank Merrill (1 sequel), P. Dempsey Tabler (1 sequel), and James Pierce (1 sequel).
Tarzan movies were made with sound in 1929, and when Tarzan Tiger began, Frank Merrill starred as the Ape Man.
The most popular series of Tarzan films began with Tarzan The Ape Man (1932). It is the most famous and long-running film of Tarzan. He played as Monkey Man in 12 sequels.

2. Wong Fei Hung (99 series
The Wong Fei Hung series has been described in The Guinness Book of Records as the longest film series ever made. So he has 99 series up & no other movie can beat its record.
Wong Fei Hung was a real person who lived in 1847 – 1924, a well-known martial arts master, traditional medicine doctor A Chinese and a rebel who became a Chinese folk hero.
The most famous and long-lasting cast of Wong Fei Hung is Kwan Tak Hing. He played 77 series from 1949 – 1981. The first movie – The Story of Huang Fei Hong part 1 (1949) – was directed by Wu Pang and produced by Yong Yao Film Company. This movie was a huge success and has spawned many sequels since then.
Wong Fei Hung’s last series that played Kwan Tak Hing was Dreadnaught (1981). In this series, he played together with Yuen Biao – one of Jackie Chan’s martial brothers.
After the retirement of Kwan Tak Hing, the adventure of Wong Fei Hung is still being done and played by many actors. Jackie Chan also played this character in The Drunken Master (1979) and gained popularity from there.
The most famous actor who played this character after Kwan Tak Hing is Jet Li. He started playing such characters once in China (1991) – which made him very famous. There are four sequels to Once Upon a Time, which starred Wong Fei Hung and one spin-off series.

Well…. I guess that’s because most of their movies are made in 30 minute movies, and they are considered “short movies” instead of long movies. But even this, they have actually made their appearance in at least 27 series of length films already.
For those of you who don’t know about them, the Three Stooges were an American vaudeville and comedy act from the early to mid-20th century best known for numerous material for short films. Their brand of physical slapstick comedy was marked by quickly delivered lines, in timeless stories. Their first names were commonly known as “Larry, Moe and Curly”, “Moe, Larry, and Shemp”, “Moe, Larry and Joe”, and “Larry, Moe, Curly-Joe”.
They made their first appearance in their first feature-length film, Soup for the Nuts (1930). It is directed by Benjamin Stoloff. Meanwhile, his first short film was Woman Haters (1934). Since then, every 3-4 months, they have released one of their short films.
The last feature-length film Kook’s Tour (1970) was released in mid-1970 after Larry Fine – one of the Three Stooges – suffered a serious stroke on January 9, 1970, a month before the film was released.
