Usually when I need to get directions to a place, I look at MapQuest. MapQuest alone is often not enough to find a place.
1. Ask someone for directions
If you know someone who knows how to get a place, it might be a good idea to ask. There are things that website software can’t tell you with their local human maneuvers. If you’re looking for a business location and it’s inside a large municipal building, online directory services are generally not helpful unless you find a large business.
2. GPS Systems
Use the GPS system in the car to drive for local directions. If you end up getting lost, you can easily find where you are relative to the place you are trying to live on the GPS system. I don’t use this method because 1, it’s too expensive, and 2, I never need it, because I use #3 below when I need to push local directions.
3. MapQuest + Google Maps
This is what I usually use when I want to push local directions. I’ve tried many other online local directory services, but I’ve found these 2 to be the best. You must use them in combination. MapQuest will present you with a graphical representation of the driving directions. There will be a clear line of roads to get to the location. You can use MapQuest to avoid toll roads, highways, or annual roads, etc.
The problem with MapQuest’s driving directions is that once you get close to your destination, if it’s in a crowded area, often the street names MapQuest uses are not always located in the same location that MapQuest tells you they are located. It works well to get you from point A to point B. But hanging around at point B, either the location doesn’t require it, or it ends up on a road that MapQuest didn’t know it was on. required to place
For that matter, if I like to get local directions, I also use Google Maps. I first used MapQuest to find a general way to get close to where I want to go, then I use Google Maps to find the destination and use road view to see real satellite 3-d views of the location from the road plane. You can also walk around in 3-d environment if you are on the street. You can use it to see how the area around the destination actually looks like once you get there, you will know what to expect and how to get around the area.
Google Maps is a great help when used alongside MapQuest when you want to get local directions.
