During my years as a daycare provider, I have heard from many parents who have attended that a child falls behind the mark when entering kindergarten in knowing the basics. Now that I have children of my own, I understand even more that external pressure, whether from family, friends, or pediatricians, can be overwhelming.
I remember when my youngest child was entering the training years, I was so nervous about the questions the nurse would ask. Am I answering correctly? It is true that nothing corresponds to right or wrong. Just as height and weight varies from one child to the next, cognition can vary from one child to another, depending on their age and maturity. The most important step we can take in a child’s education is to show them how much fun it is to learn something new. There is nothing quite like the moment when a child truly receives the first conception.
