The will of the Lacedaemonians, and their superiors in battle, were well known. That is the way of life.
For guys: Who would constantly watch naked, oiled, women dancing and singing about lewd acts? Which of you would be happy to have an older male sexual partner?
For the ladies: Who would enjoy living in a society that allows you to own land and learn how to read and write? Who among you would enjoy the first meeting with a man to dress you in mens clothes, get your hair cut off and be kidnapped?
The will of the Lacedaemonians, and their superiors in battle, were well known. That is the way of life.
Watching the movie “300” sparked my interest in Spartan life. I then went on to do many hours of research on this topic.
In the movie “300” recently came to the theaters we see what the Spartans were, but not much how they lived.
The Spartans were the guardians of ancient Greece. They were born into a society that cherished physical beauty and glorified death in battle. The Spartans became instruments of war. Spartan women were notorious for their freedom. Some of the famous quotes captions are, “I came home with a shield or on it” and “Those Spartan women give birth to men .’ This can be said because only a true man allows women to be equal.
This is to start off,
To understand the life of the Lacedaemonians, you must start from the father Lycurgus of Lacedaemon. Lycurgus, a descendant of Hercules, was the second leader of Sparta. Father and brother are dead; and his brother’s wife gave birth to a child. Lycurgus proclaimed the boy king. He would leave the blame if anything happened to the boy. Lycurgus visited other countries. He went to Crete, where he learned the forms of government which would be useful to Lacedaemon. he went to Ionia, where he learned the works of Homer. He went to Egypt, where he learned to separate soldiers from workers. Finally the Lacedaemonians begged Lycurgus to return by letters. When Lycurgus returned, he made Lacedaemon the most famous to-day.
Then he had a unique way of life for the Lacedaemonians
It was a Spartan life, cut off by jealousy, crime, and arrogance.
He forbade the ownership of gold and silver. Only money made of steel was allowed.
Iron dipped in vinegar to make useless metal.
The Spartans were forced to take food in the public hall.
This they all did according to what they ate. This also prevented the guests from flaunting their wealth.
But not every citizen became a Spartan. Helots provided labor for most of Sparta. According to the Essortment, the Helots were slaves who were captured from the local territories, Laconia and Messana mainly, around the eighth century. And they numbered the Spartans seven, to whom the Spartans were constantly on the lookout. At least once a year the Spartans reported to the Helots that they might know their place. Some others who did not become Spartan citizens were unbecoming children and perioikos. All Spartan babies were judged when they were born. If there were any notable defects, the children were turned into a gap, carried to a slope, and left in the sun, or became a Helot. The perioikos, or middle class, were Spartan men and women whose skill and fitness did not pass the age. eighteen. They were allowed to have their own property and businesses;
I will now introduce the Muscle after Sparta.
The life of the Spartans was devoted to the service of the republic. At the age of seven to 18, Spartan boys began military training. they were placed in groups and made to defend themselves in the wilds. they were not fed well and were encouraged to steal, but they were beaten to catch them. They were educated and literate but little. they walked with bare feet and developed pride because of the endurance of pain.
Around the age of twelve, every Spartan boy was expected to be young adult loving. According to Donald Kagan of the American Historical Review, young women were the most powerful participants in the Krypteia. Krypteia’s goal was to violently suppress the balls. Members of the youth were sent into the village with a dagger and instructed to kill the “bloody” helot.
From the 18th-20th centuries, they became military cadets and learned martial arts. They had experience in fitness, warfare, and leadership skills. If the cadet failed, he was denied citizenship and became part of the middle class.
From the 20th-60th centuries they entered the public service. But about the year 20 the Spartan men took their wives and impregnated them. But Lacedaemonius did not form a male affection. If love envelops them, it is shameful to show any sign.
At the age of 30, the Spartans in the city were given an equal share of the helot’s land.
After 60 years the Spartans were allowed to live at home with their families, but still ate their food in the public courts.
Finally, better, media.
D. Spartan women were free and powerful. Lacaena also from the age of 7 to 18. Their discipline was also very strict. Immense importance is placed on physical health and fit bodies. The culture of the Spartans allowed women to display their bodies however they wished. Lacaenas were to be covered with perfume from head to foot and by the river in a ritual they called “nights of ambrosia”. Spartan women believed that their excellent physical condition by dancing, wrestling and performing gymnastics naked allowed them to give healthy health children. Although Spartan women were very legal, their parents almost always took their husbands. On the night of the wedding, Lacaena would be taken to her house where her hair would be cut and she would be dressed in men’s clothing. Her husband would sneak out of doors at night and solemnly abduct her. Spartan men and women often did not see each other in daylight until the child was born.
The Lacaena had great power over other women living in the states of Greece. They received public education. They were allowed to practice sports. Perhaps they had the greatest opinions and people listened to them.
The spectators were astonished at the fierceness of the Spartan language. The Spartans were ruled by their women. Spartan women were like queen ants. The machines were mixed. According to the site “Women in the Ancient World”, Lacaena women gave birth. the devices by which the state could produce soldiers to defend itself. Not infrequently Lacaena had children from more than one husband.
Some of that was real.
The Spartans spent their time training for war and living in camp. This allowed women to be the financial burden of the family.
At one time Lacaena considered a few men to be his wife, because she had borne children to them. A woman was in charge of these relations.
Indeed, it could be the property of a woman. Daughters inherit together with sons.
The Spartans played such a role in history that they are still admired in our time. He who began it was the father of Lycurgus of Sparta. He transformed Sparta from just another Greek city into a woman-powered war machine. Since most of the working-age men were professional soldiers, the Spartan Helots kept their slaves to do manual labor, and the men and women who did not pass the tests worked for the middle class. The Lacaean men lived most of their lives with other men in the camp and after 20 years served in the army until 60. The Spartans Women had similar training they had men when they were younger, but they did not serve in the military. When they were 18 married, they gave birth to children and got the money of Sparta.
The Spartans were incredibly unique and crushed in their time. No other Greece military state has rivaled its prowess. The Spartans were an example of discipline and looked down upon the way the rest of the Greeks lived. Lacedaemonius of Athens once said that they did not know that the people were Lacedaemonians. “It is true what you say,” answered Lacedaemon, “none of you have learned evil.”
If you were a fan of the movie or were just curious about Spartans, I hope you enjoy what I have to say.
