From another British colony to the world’s only power, America has a lot of interesting history. However, here are four events in American history that are of particular historical interest because of their influence on American culture or identity.
The California Gold Rush is a time that seemed to confirm that they were now mocking the idea of manifest destiny. When the great John Sutter wanted to build a mill, his first nuggets were cut diagonally by a team of gold that would bring mass exodus from the cities of California and mass from all parts of the world. The Golden State was born, and American hopes were immense. (One of the men who moved to California at this time to seek his fortune was a guy named Levi Strauss
The Whiskey Rebellion was another interesting time. In addition to its great name, the Whiskey Rebellion was caused by the farmers, who were forced to pay taxes on their crops. Since it was difficult to transport grain to market, farmers had learned to refine their raw material in a smaller and easier factory. President George Washington and Secretary of the Treasury, Alexander Hamilton (Hamilton’s tax idea) personally led. Confederate soldiers to put down the rebellion.
Another great moment in American history is the life of the forgotten great President, Teddy Roosevelt. He was the youngest president ever (JFK was the youngest elected) and quite a character. Since he was born to a wealthy family, Roosevelt set out to live a manly life. a far cry from today’s delicate flower. Briefly runs his bio: on a hunting trip he wears teddy bears, he does not shoot; “Rough Riders” climbed San Juan Hill during the battle, thinking that Maxwell House coffee was “good to the last drop”, a speech after it was shot, the President sat alone to receive the Nobel Peace Prize; He was instrumental in the founding of the National Park System, and came with the term White House. He was also a world explorer and hunter.
I have also always been affected by the Great Depression. The bird agrees with everyone that he doesn’t see a great deal. They first ate of the labor of their hands, and afterwards they were seen to be a little excited. And none of them had much to say about FDR. However, the luck of the city and the job seeker always brought me. From The Grapes of Wrath to biographies of a young guy looking to get a job on the radio (Ronald Reagan), the depression was a time unlike any other in American history. Unless you were a poor farmer in West Virginia and nothing really changes.
While the news and Civil War times are fascinating, there are certainly many other interesting things in American history. It would be a long list to include them all.
