5 Easy Healthy Snack Ideas for Preschool Children

My daughter would have been four years old at the time I picked her up from school. I would often find myself stopping at a restaurant to pick up cheap fast food and filling it up on the long ride home. There just don’t seem to be enough hours in my day to prepare healthy after school snacks. I went to work, kept my house and everything else in order. By the time I sat down to breathe, it was time to get up and do the same thing again so I cut corners. Little did I know, I would pay much sooner rather than later. I am stuck in the saddle! And when my daughter started asking me to pull over and get chicken nuggets regular, I knew I had to do it. a new thing or else both sides of America will always have a growing problem of obesity. It means spending a little bit here and there on our pockets and our health. I had to make a plan healthy snacks first! If you’re a mom who works full time, I’m sure this story will sound familiar. But with these easy healthy after school snack ideas, you can get yourself and your child back on the right track. .

Healthy Dairy – My little one is not a fan of milk, but will eat club cheese and yogurt in plastic wrap. Since we have a long trade, I keep these snacks with the fruit in a chocolate container so they will stay cold.

Ready to Go Healthy Workouts – Teddy Grahams, graham crackers, animal crackers, raisins, popcorn and hippie crackers have always been a hit with my daughter. I tend to collect these items in small cute containers or lockable bags very rarely.

Healthy Snack Sandwiches – peanut butter and jelly or turkey on whole pieces of wheat bread cut into four corners filled with a variety of vessels. (The same zip lock doesn’t work for me here!)

If you must fast… We will eat one night a week. I’m stuck on the light side of the menu but I let my daughter order what she wants from the kids menu. It is important to keep everything in moderation and give children the opportunity to make their own choices.

Finally, planning is the key to healthy eating and smart snacks. At first, make small changes and be flexible. Rome was not built in a day! Remember that you have the most power over your child and that healthy eating habits can soon become habits! It’s never too late. Let’s get it started!
