5 Memorable Movies from the 1920s

Do you enjoy watching old films? I do. I developed a passion for them in college when I took a film class. Some of the movies I enjoyed watching were released in the 1920s. I found the movie a movie from that decade that others were silent and others were having conversations. With that said, here are a myriad of memorable films from five decades;

“Dr. Jekyll and Hyde”

The 1920, silent version of “Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde” is one flick that I found memorable. St. Robertson was ordained by the venerable John Barrymore and the asterisk. In the movie, Barrymore had the role of a good singer and a not so good doctor. Personally, I thought that his character was painted, especially in the final death scene.

“In Hunchback of Notre Dame”

The 1923 version of “Humhback of Notre-dame” was also a silent film. It was directed by Wallace Worsley and starred one of my actors, Lon Chaney. A story about a crippled man and his involvement with the king’s adopted daughter. In my opinion, Chaney’s portrayal of Quasimodo was the most famous. I really appreciated his ability to convey emotions with body”” well silent films to “talkies”. I also found this remarkable because of the story. He is a Jewish boy who decided against his father’s will to be a singer. The film was directed by Alan Crosland and starred such popular artists as Al Jolson and Eugenie Besserer.

“I will tame the shrews”

The 1929 version of “The Taming of the Shrew” was also a “talkie”. The fictional film focuses on one rich man’s love affair with a strong and proud woman. It was directed by Sam Taylor and directed such notable artists as Douglas Fairbanks and Mary Pickford. Fairbanks and Pickford portray a strong and proud woman. Although the film was not necessarily shot at the time, I enjoyed watching it. I especially liked the ending of Pickford’s destruction. I think it was well done.
