Below are 5 unique and special Michigan microbrews, with links to their websites for purchase, enjoy!
Brewing Company in Warren, Michigan has been making quality beers for a while now. Blackberry Eisbock is offensive, and something you shouldn’t get drunk too quickly or have too much of. At 13.5% alcohol this very thick, chocolate flavor beer is very light and well balanced not too sweet for this type of beer. On a cold day, alcohol and the strong flavors of malt will warm you up in a hurry.
Founders Kentucky Breakfast Stout (KB – from Founders Brewing Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. This American Double / Imperial Stout is a perfect example of what an American Double Stout is all around, a super dark almost black color, an inch from the caramel head creamy, oaky, vanilla, and chocolatey flavor, full of flavor, bourbon hits right away, super strong though, and a robust one in my book it will not confuse.
Canadian Founders Breakfast Stout – from Founders Brewing Company in Grand Rapids, Michigan. They’ve done it again with this killer breakfast stout, which is another American Double Stout. The smell is pure heaven, roasted coffee and chocolate aromas that lead to an explosion of chocolate flavor very well balanced and smooth, with some sweetness from the oatmeal, which has some roasted coffee flavor at the end of the notes with bitter hops, very complex. and pleasant.
Bell’s HopSlam Ale – From a brewery in Kalamazoo, Michigan this is a fantastic American Twin IPA. So strong in alcohol and drinking they warned how dangerous this beer is. The color of this beer is a big fat honey with an orange color and it pours with a nice thick head that fades slowly. The taste of citrus, especially grapefruit, is immediately supported by hints of pine and solid caramel malt. Lots of hops in this beer, but not as much as the name would suggest, overall a solid beer from one of Michigan’s best microbreweries.
Oro De Calabaza – from Jolly Pumpkin Artisan Ales in Dextera, Michigan. This fantastic Biere de Garde beer is a fantastic refreshing hot drink on a summer day. This beer is a beautiful golden yellow beer with a nice head that lingers throughout the drink, aromas of lemons and apples, and country funk. This beer is like a really sophisticated sparkling white wine, with upfront citrus flavors that flow down to a nice fermented sweet oak finish, which it is dry, very drinkable.
