Step aerobics is a great way to lose weight, build muscle, and tone and sculpt your body. When done correctly, aerobic steps can work every muscle in the body while you’re about to sail the day before. There are many step aerobics workout DVDs on the market today and here are five that receive five star ratings.
Reebok: The Step Circuit Challenge lead by instructor Gin Miller is a high-impact aerobic workout combined with muscle toning exercises is guaranteed to sweat. It is fast, motivational, and moves like leaps, power trikes, and limp jumps. Toning exercises, which require three to five pounds of dumbbells or resistance tubing, target the upper body and the abs. In this Reebok workout, a live jazz/funk/African band helps keep you in time with a 45-minute workout. Ms. Miller provides good instructions and expertly demonstrates various moves. Including intervals for advanced level exercise and toning intervals, there is every moment warm and cool down sections.
Another five star DVD from Reebok is the Power Workout with Gen Miller. This advanced 50-minute step workout is full of lunges, jumps, and high-impact movements. Because it is an advanced workout, only well-rested people who are proficient in aerobics are recommended for this DVD. However, if you start slow and listen to Gin’s well-choreographed instructions, you’re sure to conquer this high-impact workout in no time. It took me about two weeks, working out three times a week, before I was able to complete all the movements in this workout. The workout music is presented live, with flashing lights and shooting flames giving it a futuristic look.
ShapelyGirl – Let’s step in is also rated high by reviewers. The ShapelyGirl team is led through a step-by-step aerobic workout by Debra Mazda, who is the author of the ShapelyGirl DVD series. Don’t let the name fool you, because this workout is designed for women of all sizes. This DVD boasts how easy and fun it is to learn simple beginner-level exercises that will help you Caren Voight’s Ultimate Step Circuit alternates between aerobic steps and weight training. Karen takes you through seven to nine minute stepping sections complete with jacks and jumps combined with arm movements. The toning sessions are shorter and targeted to specific muscle groups, such as abs, arms, hips. This 57-minute workout is a mixed-impact workout and requires three to five pound dumbbells.
Another way to get a workout DVD is The Roof by Design with Carol Paradiso. This intermediate to advanced workout has somewhat complicated choreography, making the moves more mentally and physically challenging. This one took me a little longer to learn. However, Carole’s clear instructions made it easier to learn about the upcoming moves. This 52-minute step workout is guaranteed to burn fat and give you a boost of energy.
