If you’ve read any of the A Song of Ice and Fire books by George R. R. Martin – or watched the HBO series Game of Thrones for the first time – you know. what the series has to offer. You have characters that you love to hate or hate to love — the villains that let you down — the arguments that ruined your week. And you probably have favorite quotes.
Here are a few of my favorite verses and some from other A Song of Ice and Fire readers. I have also added my thoughts on each of the areas. Got a favorite quote? Share it in the comments. Be careful – some of these are from later books. If you haven’t caught up yet or have only watched the HBO series, you will run into some SPOILERS.
These first three come from Travis Warren, Associate Content Writer.
“Lannister always pays his debts.”
This depth has tons. Depending on the speaker and the declension, it can only be noted about something. In one way he emphasized the honor. But a slight change of tradition adds to the threat and abundance of malice. The Lannisters know this, and rely on this family catchphrase early and often.
“Winter is coming.”
In the Stark family calendar, you would probably want to find this phrase on every day on the grid. It is sad and fatalistic. The Starks, however, are not much in the mood for humor. John, Ned’s son, was the most likely to laugh and find something to enjoy in life – even if he had a hard time with the smiling and door-keeping Theon Greyjoy. It’s a perfectly grim motto for a perfectly grim family.
“Valar morghulis” (All men must die
I associate this phrase very closely with Arya Stark and her flight from Harrenhal. Other characters talk about it, but it almost becomes a mantra for Arya – and ultimately means her safety and sanctuary. Life in the House of Black and White is not easy, but it is far better than the adventures of its characters such as Biter, Rorge, Gregor Clegane or even Lord Bolton.
Some of the following are favorites of Vince Wood of Hurst, Texas. A great selection to make.
“There are no people like me. There is only me.”
Jaime Lannister shows his arrogance at this point. Is it his faith? Between the two lines is fine. You may know that these words came before the lost sword came to hand. After losing that defining part of himself, Babylon undergoes an incredible transformation—perhaps one of the book’s most profound and sudden.
“The king eats, they say, but his hands take s**t.”
Renly Baratheon shows how much they know about Westeros politics. Lately King Robert spent most of his time in idle studies, while his hand John Arryn reigned in his stead. This sounds like nothing new: Ser Illyn Payne lost his tongue when he boasted that his owner of the reins, Tywin Lannister, really reigned as a Targaryen king. It didn’t take long for Ned Stark to see the truth in Renly’s words.
“No one is free. Only children and fools feel differently.”
Tywin Lannister is almost as icy as Ned Stark. At this point he shows his vision – no matter what your station is, you are bound in some way. Through the family. EX OFFICE Park a. by birth For the best way to deal with the hand. It is unfair that Tywin feels so bound by his wealth given to him. I think it is likely that Cersei, being scorned by the Targaryen family, made a deep impression on him.
I’ll finish with two of my favorites.
“We’ll give you a piece of advice, bastard. Never forget what you are, surely it won’t be the world. Make your strengths. Then there can never be a weakness. Arm yourself in it, and it must never be used to harm you.”
Tyrion Lannister tells Jon Snow exactly how to turn the lord’s baseborn son to his advantage. and he lives by books. Imp., a monster, a deformed dwarf. He plays games and plays with every sling and arrow. Tyrion also includes the nickname “Halfman” given to him by the mountain tribes.
“I’m honest. It’s clean, it’s terrible.”
Sandor “The Clegane – a “hound” who refuses to bend the knee and became a knight because he hates their fakeness. Cover the scar (motion then) loves to kill. But something about Sansa and Arya Stark never sugarcoats their opinions, saying that they are better used in a world where there are no real soldiers -info.vn/tag/dog-play”>He is old, but a dog never plays false to its master.
