Yardley Soaps
I have eczema and my skin can get irritated and itchy very easily. The times when it gets the most irritated is during my morning shower. I have tried plenty of different brands of bar soaps from various drugstores and even department stores and most of them dried out my skin terribly and would leave it feeling tight, itchy, and dry.
Even the soaps that claimed to be more moisturizing didn’t work for me. They would just leave a weird residue on my skin that couldn’t be rinsed off, and instead of making my skin feel moisturized and calm it only felt itchy and sticky afterwards.
One day I was in a Walgreen’s store looking at various toiletries and I happened to glance at a rather plain looking beige box of soap by the brand Yardley. I’d never seen the soap before and had never even heard of the brand, even though the company’s been producing soaps and perfumes since the late 1700’s.
Normally, because of the packaging I would have passed the soap by, but since my skin was still feeling itchy from my previous shower I decided to pick up the box and find out what was in the soap. It didn’t contain any sodium laryl sulfate or any other version of a sulfate, but it did contain sodium tallowate, sodium cocoate, glycerin and other ingredients.
I wasn’t sure if it would be more gentle than the other soaps I’ve tried but it was only about $1.50 so I decided to try one of the Yardley soaps in the lavender scent. I used the soap the next day and loved it. It produced a rich lather like other soaps, but it rinsed off more cleanly, and left my skin feeling clean and without any sticky film. The Yardley soap also didn’t dry out my skin. After my shower my skin didn’t feel moisturized in the sense that I’d just put on lotion, but it wasn’t tight either, my skin just felt normal and balanced the way that skin should feel.
After using all of the other soaps, I would notice that my eczema would always look very red and inflamed, but with the Yardley soap my eczema was the same color as the rest of my skin. After using the soap for a few months my eczema has improved a lot. The few patches that I have rarely itch now and they aren’t as scaly, and it hasn’t spread at all.
I thought the lavender scent of the fragrance would be stronger and more relaxing, but it’s rather mild so it doesn’t have that effect, but it does leave my skin smelling clean and fresh. I’ve been using the soap for a few months and the lavender fragrance has become a bit boring for me, so I’ve recently bought the soap in the natural oatmeal and almond scent, because it reminded me of a Jergen’s lotion that I used when I was younger.
I would recommend the Yardley soap to people with sensitive skin and eczema because it’s so mild, and at only $1.50 a bar, it’s worth a shot. I’d also recommend it to people who have normal skin because it will keep your skin in great condition and won’t dry it out. The Yardley soaps are amazing and was one of my best finds at Walgreen’s, and I’m now a loyal customer. I give it 5 out of 5 stars.
