As shocking as it may seem a known candy bar company with tons of products can actually believe in nutrition and health. That seems to where the trend of healthy is heading for Hershey’s, who even now are promoting products of 100 calories or less. Shocking yes but true.
Free GMO products in Europe
The Hershey’s company now broadening its products marketing to Europe starting February of 2011. The company will be reformulating their products to be GMO free (genetically-modified-organisms). This effort is being made upon the demand and requirements of Asda, in the United Kingdom. Asda a subsidiary of Wal-Mart which has GMO free rules, and they will become Hershey’s exclusive retailer in the United Kingdom. The United States formulas do contain GMO and will not be altered.
The products will include 21 different varieties from bars of solid chocolate to Reese’s and Hershey’s Kisses. The main ingredients have been re-formulated which include removing beet sugar to making it cane sugar and using soy lecithin as a Identity Preservation. Transportation and storage will also be GMO free or be cleaned before using of these products.
Cacao Products
It was the year 2006 and Hershey’s company took a new leap in a direction. It had announced its new line of Cacao Reserve all natural chocolate products made with real cacao.
Upon that time the line consisted of chocolate bars, cocoa, and truffles which contained varying levels of cacao. The chocolate bars had come in milk chocolate and milk chocolate with hazel nuts and contained 35 percent cacao. Extra dark chocolate had contained 65 percent of the cacao and extra dark with nibs was also at 65 percent.
It’s line had included “Java Indonesian”milk chocolate bar containing 32% cacao with caramel flavors, “Arriba” with 50% cacao and herbal flavorings, “Santo Dimingo” with 67% cacao, spice and wine flavors and the “Sao Tome” bar containing 70% cacao.
Hershey’s gift to health they may be producing chocolate but they offer it in the purest forms.
Hershey introduces “Goodness Chocolate Portfolio”
Headlines blared in 2007 hosting Hershey as they build upon health. Adding to their health boosting chocolate by introducing two new products.
Hershey had released Hershey’s Antioxidant Milk Chocolate and Whole Bean Chocolate products.
Hershey had began to aim their efforts at health when news reports started making the media pages about the health benefits of high cacao chocolate content.
Earlier in that same month Harvard Medical School had released research that had revealed that flavanol Epichatechin which is found in cacao is greatly beneficial for health, so much that it could really be listed as a vitamin.
Michael Buck, Senior Vice President for Hershey’s had commented that consumers have an interest in the benefits of chocolate, which include antioxidants that are found in dark chocolate naturally.
With that fact in mind Hershey’s set about adding to their goodness portfolio which had consisted of a line of extra dark chocolate with 60% cacao content and Hershey’s sticks which only had contained 60 calories.
Hershey’s Kosher Line
Kosher in Hebrew meaning correct. It defines foods under Jewish law that cannot be consumed and how the food is to be prepared.
Certain animals such as a pig may not be consumed and others must by slaughtered in accordance with Jewish law and they must be an approved animal.
Hershey’s notes on their site agencies inspect the manufacturing facilities to determine that all ingredients used are meeting Kosher guidelines.
These products include Hershey’s Syrup, Sprinkles, Almond Joy and Reese’s.
Sugar Free Line
Hershey’s has it’s own line of sugar free goodies. These include syrup and baking pieces and a kid’s favorite of Bubble Yum.
100 Calorie or less line
In their efforts to help keep snacks in a certain calorie range for consumers, Hershey’s has their own 100 calorie line. Many of the Hershey products are already packaged in 100 calories or less department.
You can enjoy 23 pieces of Almond Joy pieces or even 23 Good & Plenty at 100 calories.
In the lower than 100 calories you can have a snack size bar of Almond Joy at 90 calories or a Kit Kat snack bar at 70 calories.

Late Breaking News
It has been announced Hershey’s is halting production of Ice Breaker Pacs in response to negative statements that the candy looks too much like street drugs.
Members of the Philadelphia police narcotics squad have said the mints look much like tiny heat sealed bags used in the sale of powered street drugs. They are cited it could cause serious problems if a child wore to find a packet of cocaine thinking it was the candy.
