Harvest Decorating Ideas

Decorating for fall seems to be a mind blowing task. It does not have to be. There are several things that you can use along with many ideas, tips and tricks to help you get started. When it comes to making swags and other types of wall art all you really need is a basic sense of color.

When making your very own swag for fall you must start with a general idea of color. Taking into consideration that you are making one for autumn, you may want to pick golden browns, orange or dark red. When you have your colors picked out you can then move on to the next step in making your swag.

A great Idea for making an autumn swag would be to use items such as pip and berries or willow branches as a base.

Let’s start with willow branches. You can use artificial or real as long as they are dried and aged well. You will want approximately ten branches. Take these branches and separate them into groups of five and set them aside. Now that you have the hard part taken care of you must find something to fasten them together. You may use twine which would be suitable for an autumn swag or even jewelry wire if that is what you have on hand. Take your groups of five and point them so that the cut ends are facing each other and overlap them about six inches. You should now take your twine or wire and secure them together tightly so that they are not lose or falling out of your freshly made bundle.

Once they look even it is time to find a focal point for your swag. You can use a couple of autumn colored flowers, cinnamon sticks, a nice bow or even a package of pumpkin seeds would make a nice touch.

I begin by making a nice bow to put in the center of my swag, I will tie my bow around a four or five cinnamon sticks and glue to the center of the swag preferably with hot glue because it dries much quicker than any other glue. Please allow your glue dry time or cooling time if you are using hot glue.

If you feel that your swag still needs a bit more try adding a couple of small artificial flower heads around the bow or glue your pumpkin seeds between the bow and the swag so that the word pumpkin is peeking out. At this point your swag is nearly finished.

The last step you should take in making your very own swag is to make a small loop to hang from the back of your swag so that you can hang it securely to a wall or other flat surface.

Remember the most important thing about crafting is to have fun and to be creative. You can make any type or color of swag with almost any materials using these simple steps.
