One Man’s Variation of an Early Morning Workout Routine

About a year ago, I was bored with my old fitness routine and decided to come up with one of my own that not only fit my lifestyle, that of a middle aged man, but also varied from day to day to keep it from getting stale. The most important thing that I do for my weekly fitness routine is to wake up really early. I have become accustomed to getting up around 3:30 am every day. This gives me time to do some minor stretching before my more strenuous activities. I have my workout split into two groups during the week to give muscles time to rest in between work outs while I also take Saturdays off from doing it altogether.

Sundays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays

These are the days that I work on my upper body strength. I usually start with 20 Bicep Curls using 10 pound weights. I follow that up with 20 pushups and then 20 bench presses with the same 10 pound weights. Afterwards I do the cardio portion of my work out by riding my Schwinn Frontier bike for an average of 40 minutes. Just these upper body exercises have given me more strength in my arms and chest.

Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays

These days I mainly work out my Abs. 25 Crunches are followed by 15 squats and 25 more crunches. Then I jog for 30 minutes to get in my cardio. These exercises have helped to trim my waist and lose a few pounds where I needed to most, my stomach area.

While I could use a treadmill instead, I enjoy the outdoors and clean morning air that comes with living in a small town. The cardio gives my heart a good workout, and it also gives me time to get my thoughts together in the quietness of the early morning before I head off to the stress of work. I feel that since I have starting doing this particular work out regimen, I feel and look better which in turn has given me more confidence. Not only do I feel better about my physical health, but also my mental health. I feel more alert which in turn helps me to be a more productive person at work and also in my personal life.

When I am finished my workout, I do a few more stretches before eating a healthy breakfast and getting ready for the rest of my day. The hour I spend doing this work out is time well spent.
