1. Matt Moore – TB – RP (22)
One of the most highly touted minor league prospects entering the 2011 season, Moore made his much anticipated major league debut with the Tampa Bay Rays in September last season. Boasting exceptional strikeout ability during his time in the minors, Moore definitely translated that ability to the major league level as he quickly racked up 15 strikeouts over 9 innings pitched to finish out the 2011 season with the Rays. With a spot either in the Rays starting rotation or possibly as their closer, Moore has outstanding upside no matter what his pitching responsibilities will be in 2012, as he should tally excellent strikeout numbers to go along with solid ERA and WHIP numbers that can help any fantasy baseball team in 2012.

After pitching 144 innings at Triple A in 2011 as a 20 year old, Teheran made his highly anticipated major league debut with the Braves last season, and it is easy to believe that he expands his role in the Braves pitching staff in 2012. With a solid starting rotation in Atlanta to begin the 2012 season, Teheran’s best opportunity to receive major league innings is probably in the bullpen as a relief pitcher. However there is no doubt that Teheran is ready for an opportunity to pitch in the majors entering the 2012 season.

The Detroit Tigers top ranked pitching prospect entering the 2011 season, Turner who was the #9 overall pick in the 2009 MLB draft, zipped through the minor leagues and made his major league debut with the Tigers on July 31 at just age 20. Possessing ace potential as a starting pitcher, Turner will likely be given every opportunity to claim the Tigers #5 starting spot to begin the 2012 season. If all goes as well as it could for Turner as a rookie in 2012, he could possibly become the Detroit Tigers second best starting pitcher behind Justin Verlander this season.

At age 23, Reed is a polished college pitcher who has excelled at every level in the minors during his career thus far. Offering excellent control and strikeout ability, Reed offers similar upside as a rookie in 2012 as what Craig Kimbrel brought as a rookie in 2011. With the closers spot open in the White Sox bullpen to begin the 2012 season, Reed is poised to take over that roll and become an excellent closer as a rookie during the 2012 season.

Now entering the 2012 season having been traded to the Oakland Athletics, Parker is a prime candidate to claim a starting spot in the Athletics rotation in 2012.

Drafted in the 41st round of the 2006 MLB draft, Peacock was merely average during his early seasons in the minors. However after starting the 2011 season at Double A, Peacock broke out with an excellent year that included a promotion to Triple A, and then he even made a very successful major league debut in September of last season. Now at age 24, Peacock is in line to claim a spot in the Oakland Athletics starting rotation during the 2012 season. In Peacock’s case, while he may not have the best pitching tools to make him an elite starting pitcher in the majors, he does a wide open opportunity for playing time in 2012.

Miller will likely start the 2012 season at Triple A, and if he continues to dominate hitters there like he has over his minor league career, then a mid-season call up to the St. Louis Cardinals starting rotation seems like a guaranteed bet.

Drafted with the 3rd overall pick in the 2011 MLB draft, Bauer wasted no time getting signed and playing pro baseball to finish out the 2011 season. After a successful 3 starts at Single A, the Diamondbacks quickly moved Bauer up to Double A where he tallied 4 starts to finish out the season. As an experienced and successful college starting pitcher, Bauer enters the 2012 season on the fast track to making a major league impact sooner rather than later. A mid-season major league call up is very likely for Bauer in 2012, and when he does get his major league opportunity, Bauer could very easily become a dominate starting pitcher who can pile up the strikeouts.

After a successful first three seasons in the minors after being drafted in the 1st round of the 2008 MLB draft, Montgomery encountered a plethora of pitching problems during the 2011 season at Triple A. Combining a declined strikeout rate and an increased walk rate in 2011, Montgomery will be looking for a bounce back season in 2012. With four seasons of minor league experience under his belt, Montgomery is very close to claiming a spot in the Kansas City Royals starting rotation.
