I admit that I can sometimes be influenced by infomercials – especially those introducing new kitchen gadgets. In fact, there are a few things in my cupboards right now that I’ve rarely used. Consequently, my husband gave me somewhat of an unhappy look when I told him I wanted to purchase the Kitchen King Pro Manual Food Processor. I was in great need of a food processor, but had also recently misplaced my electric mixer. As a result, I thought it would be ideal if I could find something that would serve both purposes. Per the infomercial, the Kitchen King Pro could be used to chop, slice and dice, as well as mix, whip and blend. Priced at less than $40, I thought it might be a worthwhile investment.
The Kitchen King Pro set comes with several parts and attachments. Nevertheless, the product is still very easy to use and store. First there is the bowl and non-slip suction cup base. These two parts are used in each and every function. From there, you will then choose a lid for the bowl. The safety lid and detachable arm are most often used; however, the mandolin lid with julienne blades is used in the process of slicing. Lastly (when using the safety lid), the choice must be made as to what part will be used in the center of the bowl. Choices include the tri-blade (for chopping, grinding, pureeing and grating) and the whipping/mixing attachment. With just a slight twist clockwise, parts can easily be locked into place and you are ready to make some great dishes and recipes.
The Chopping Blade
Since working diligently to try and eat right, I am always looking to create new recipes and dishes that are filled with fresh fruits and vegetables. With the Kitchen King Pro, I can make a number of healthy dishes quickly and easily. A few of these include salsas, fruit salads, soups, sauces and dips. This product has also motivated me to make more gourmet and hearty salads. With the chopping blade, I can make salads that look as though they could be served in a gourmet restaurant.
The Mandolin Lid for Slicing
The mandolin lid is a special attachment for the Kitchen King Pro bowl. After the lid is attached to the bowl, the safety holder (with metal spokes) is then attached to the food item which you desire to slice. The food item is then slid across the blades on the lid to make slices. You can adjust the blades to make either thick, medium or thin slices. I often use this part to slice cucumbers, cabbage and potatoes (for homemade chips).
The Whipping/Mixing Attachment
Now I was somewhat skeptical about the possibility of this product serving as both a food processor and a mixer. Nonetheless, it is true, this product works quite well in mixing, blending and whipping. I’ve used it to make cookie dough, pancake batter and much more. Although it works very well, it is not conducive to mixing in large quantities. For example, if baking a double layered chocolate cake, you can only make one pan of cake batter at a time (as the bowl is not very big). To use the mixing function of the food processor, simply replace the blade with the whipping/mixing attachment. Note that being manual, it can take quite a bit of strength and diligence to turn the arm when the dough is thick.
The Kitchen King Pro is easy to clean. I simply clean the parts in the dishwasher except for the non-slip suction cup base which I just wipe down with a wet cloth.
