When it comes to choosing a beeswax lip balm I find myself stuck choosing between Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm and the J. R. Watkins Natural Beeswax Lip Balm because they both protect and hydrate the lips wonderfully. However, both lip balms are slightly different with pros and cons.
The Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm
The Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm comes in a lip balm tube and the lip balm is made from natural nourishing ingredients like vitamins, soybean oil, canola oil, sunflower seed oil, coconut oil, beeswax, rosemary, peppermint, lanolin and comfrey root. These natural ingredients hydrate and protect the lips naturally from the sun and wind well. They also help soften my lips up while providing them with a cooling sensation and slight peppermint flavor and scent. However, this lip balm leaves a white residue on my lips, which I hate and is slightly waxy and heavy on the lips. On the upside, the lip balm stays on my lips for up to 4 hours when I do apply it. In addition, it also helps heal up cracked dried out damaged lips very well. I even use this lip balm on cold sores to help soothe the burning and tingling sensations they sometimes cause. The Burt’s Bees Beeswax lip balm cost around $3 and you can find it easily at any local drug store unlike the J. R. Watkins Natural Beeswax Lip Balm, which is a bit harder to find these days.
The J. R. Watkins Natural Beeswax Lip Balm
Now the J. R. Watkins Natural Beeswax Lip Balm comes in a lip balm tube as well, but it is made from natural ingredients like aloe, peppermint, rice, sunflower oil, copolymer, safflower oil and beeswax. This lip balm is not waxy or thick when you apply and it does not leave a white residue on the lips. Instead, this lip balm is buttery like and melts right into the lips leaving them shiny and well hydrated. The downside is this lip balm does not stay on the lips as long as the Burt’s Bees Beeswax Lip Balm does, which means I always have to reapply it. On the upside, this lip balm has a strong peppermint scent to it that is refreshing and it does help provide my lips with a cooling soothing sensation. In addition, it does leave my lips feeling soft and plumped up which I really like. This lip balm cost between $2 and $3 and is very difficult to find in stores so you have to search for it online at online drug stores.
Overall, both lip balms work wonderfully with nourishing, hydrating and protecting the lips and I would recommend either one of them. However, if your lips are really damaged and cracked I would recommend trying the Burt’s Bees Lip Balm over the J. R. Watkins Natural Beeswax Lip Balm because it is a bit heavier and better at protecting and healing damaged lips. If you are just looking to maintain healthy lips go ahead and use the J. R. Watkins Lip Balm instead of the Burt’s Bees. Either way it is your choice to decide which beeswax lip balm is best for you. I hope this guide just helps make your decision easier.
