Camouflage Painting a Wall

Ever want to do something different on a boring wall in your home? You may want to consider painting a camouflage pattern on one of the walls. Beware however, as a camouflage pattern can be very busy and may be too overwhelming on an entire wall if the room is small. If you decide perhaps an entire wall would be too much for your taste but you like the design idea you can always paint a border either up near top of wall at ceiling or as a chair-rail height around the room. To use this technique you would mark off the desired area with painters tape.

To begin with the painting once you decide the wall or area you want to paint, you’ll need to decide on the colors you want to use. Typical camouflage is tan, olive green and beige or brown. There are varieties of beiges for dessert camo, blues or white and grays for winter camo. You can always paint a variety of any three colors you like and would want to put in the room. Using three completely different colors from the regular ones are fine, but you should choose three colors that compliment one another while they also contrast one another.

Once colors are chosen you can start by lightly drawing irregular shapes with a pencil on the area to be painted. When that is done you will begin by starting with the lightest color. Fill in shapes around the area and space the light color around skipping some spaces for the other colors. Once you get enough done with the lightest color allow those to dry completely. Once it is all dry, take the next lightest color and again go around the room painting irregular shapes making sure to touch on a side to the lightest color you already applied. Allow those to dry completely and you’ll be ready for last step. As you begin with the darkest shade, fill in any spaces that are still not painted. You can always change the shape if needed to cover any mistakes with the darkest color. Once all is finished and completely dry, you can then fix anything you think needs a little more by painting with the color of choice. It is just easier to cover with the darker or medium color rather than the lightest one.

The whole process can be done on a weekend and it makes a huge difference in the look of a room. For girls you could choose a hot pink, light pink and white color scheme for the camouflage pattern. You can also use three colors that are special to someone, such as a blue, orange and white camo pattern for a UF Gator fan. Yes, I’m a Gator fan, can’t help it! The same would work for any sport team fan though. Another way to get the effect but not paint an entire wall is to border off an area in a room, like a corner of a child’s room to be used for toys and books. Mark off the area and paint the camouflage pattern in that area only. There are as many color varieties and ways to paint a room as you have in your imagination. Just let go, have fun and do it!
