Florida’s Gulf Coast offers visitors to the Sunshine State some of the most beautiful beaches and wonderful weather in the country year-round. It’s a wonderful thing to experience, and why not bring your pet along? Happily, the area is also host to some of the state’s best pet-friendly accommodations and dog parks; together, they make for a truly memorable vacation.
If you’re planning to take your pet on a weekend getaway (or even something longer), check out one of these fantastic finds.
Tradewinds Island Resorts in St. Pete Beach
While this area has been popular for years with beach-lovers because of the incredibly fine white powder sand and clear water, The Tradewinds caters to its guests with pets, making it a real beach treasure. The hotel even offers a special luxury package for those guests who want to make it a real getaway for their furry family members, too! While Fido’s Fabulous Adventure Package offers special access to amenities like their Pet Play Zone and Doggie Accessory Center, treats from the pet boutique, and lots of puppy swag, all guests have access to the four dozen pet-friendly suites, dog walking and washing zones, and pet-sitting on request.
Nearby Fort DeSoto Beach is a wonderful park for any visitor, but especially for dogs. In fact, it is the only place in Pinellas County where dogs are allowed on the beach. It includes a popular play area designed specifically for pets and the people who love them, as St. Pete itself doesn’t allow pets on the beach.
Changing Tides Cottages in Madeira Beach
Pets are welcome and free to roam in the enclosed Changing Tides property. It’s situated minutes away from some of the most desirable vacation spots on the Gulf Coast. They love dogs here, and you can expect a few canines around to keep you and your pet company (you’ll likely spot Blue, who’s something of an ambassador for the four-legged guests). The cottage rentals provide a relaxed environment for you and your pet to enjoy each other’s company while taking in the sea breeze in Boca Ciega Harbor. Nearby Boca Ciega Millenium Park also offers one of the best dog parks in Pinellas County.
Signal Inn Beach and Raquetball Club in Sanibel Island
If you’re dying to do some serious shelling, there’s no better place to go than Sanibel Island. If you’ve got a quiet experience in mind, the Signal Inn might just be the perfect destination. The resort allows guests to bring up to two cats or dogs, so your kitty won’t feel left out. Two boardwalks take guests down to the shelling beach, and gazebos on the property allow you to enjoy the fresh breezes and still keep your cool. Room setups range from one to four bedrooms with multiple layouts, including some with separate dens and multiple baths. Pet fees (per animal) are $95 per week, $65 for three nights.
West Central Florida boasts the most beautiful beaches and offers some of the best pet-friendly destinations in the state. Whether it’s for a few days surfside or a week-long adventure with your best friend, the Gulf Coast offers something for every pet-lover.
