When I was a kid, you mixed some Kool-Aid in a pitcher with sugar and water and drank it. The kids loved the fruity flavors. Later, after I became an adult, I learned that you can do other things with this very tasty powder. Here are 10 unusual uses for Kool-Aid brand soft drink powder you can also try:
Make 1. Easy, Tasty Kool-Aid Frosting
I discovered this unusual use for Kool-Aid powder one day when I had a can of vanilla frosting and a cherry chip cake for frosting. I stirred in a packet of cherry flavored Kool-Aid and the result was a delicious, creamy top that everyone loved!
If you need a tasty frosting for a gelatin cake, all you have to do is fold a packet of Kool-Aid into a container containing Cool Whip ®. If the frosting tastes a little bitter, add more sugar, a little at a time, until it tastes good to you.
2. Make Kool-Aid Brand Lip Gloss
This is unusual for girls to use! All you need to do to make a fruitful lip gloss is to place a small amount of petroleum jelly in a microwave safe bowl. Some people stir the Kool-Aid soft drink powder into the jelly enough to get that color. Stir in the sugar, then place the bowl in the microwave oven for about five or six seconds – just enough to soften the mixture.
3. Make Sand Art With Kool-Aid Brand Soft Drink Mix
Kool-Aid is perfect for kids to make safe with Sand Art! All you need to do is provide them with plenty of paper and pens. After they draw pictures on paper, give them different colors from dry Kool-Aid and Elmer’s® Glue. Then instruct them to place a thin sheet of glue over one of the items in the picture. It is better to start at the top of the pictures so that the arms do not get caught in the wet mixture. Then they can sprinkle Kool-Aid on that area and gently press it down. After the kids shake off the excess soft drink powder, they can move on to the next section.
After their pictures are made, let them set until the Elmer’s glue is completely dry.
4. Temporarily Dye Your Hair With Kool-Aid

Choose the color you want to use and pour it into a glass container. Add a teaspoon of cornstarch and enough water to turn the ingredients into a paste. Apply the paste to your clean, dry hair and leave for five minutes. Then dry the flour. Your “new do” will last until you shampoo your hair once or twice.

6. Make Kool-Aid Mud for the Kids
Homemade clay you can already know how to play for your kids. But, did you know that you can make mud using the Kool-Aid brand of soft drink powder? A cup of white flour, a quarter cup of salt, 2 tablespoons of cream of tartar and a packet of Kool-Aid in a pan. Stir in a cup of water and a table of vegetable oil and heat a pan over medium heat on your stove. After a few minutes, the mixture should clump together in the pan. When that is done, remove the pan from the stove and let it cool slightly until you can touch it. Apply Kool-Aid to the mud on your hands until it is no longer gray. Place it in an airtight container and store in a refrigerator until use.
7. Remove chlorine from your hair
If you swim in a chlorinated pool, you may notice that after a while, your hair will change color. It is especially noticeable in people who have brown hair or . To solve this problem, there are two things you can do. First, whenever swim in a chlorinated pool, dip your hair with non-chlorinated water first before getting into the pool. This will help your hair absorb the chlorinated water. Second, to help get your back to its original color, use a bunch of Kool-Aid lemonade. Pour a little Kool-Aid on your hand if you have short hair; use more if the hair is long or if the color has really changed. Then add a dab of shampoo and lather to your hair. Leave the Kool-Aid on your hair for fifteen minutes before washing it off and shampooing well.
Note: Try not to get the Kool-Aid brand soft drink powder in your eyes or sting.
8. Kool-Aid Brand Water Colors
Are there kids to be added? Why not mix some Kool-Aid brand water colors? They are fun and safe to use too. Even if babies stick paint brush in their mouth, this homemade paint will not harm them!
Pour several packets of different colored soft drink powder into individual glass bowls. (Don’t use plastic or the Kool-Aid may stain them.) Stir a tablespoon of water into each bowl; until the powder is completely dissolved.
Then give the kids plenty of thick artist paper and brushes, and you’re ready to have some fun!
Seal any remaining Kool-Aid tightly and store the container in the refrigerator to use again.
9. Victe Dye Old Tee Shirt
Because the Kool-Aid brand of soft drink powder contains artificial colors, dye a large band on a tee shirt, or a pair of cotton socks. Of course, your kids can dye most anything using Kool-Aid. Curtains, blankets, linens, doll clothes and more can change colors quickly if you have some Kool-Aid and these instructions;
First, make sure the shirt you want to tie dye is clean and dry. Next, open a few packets of Kool-Aid. Pour each packet into individual glass bowls. Stir an ounce of white vinegar in each bowl; make sure the dust dissolves completely.
Take the shirt and twist it into whatever fabric you want. Hold it in place with several rubber bands. Before you start to dye your item, you’d better put on a pair of gloves to prevent your hands from getting too dyed!
Now, grab the shirt to the side and dip it into the bowl of Kool-Aid. Then take another place, and dip another color. Do this until your creation is complete. Leave the band aid in place and place the tee shirt outside in the sun.
Once your tie dye tee shirt seems to be dry, remove the ties. Then spread it outside in the sun to dry completely. Then pop it in the dryer and dry on “high heat” for fifteen to twenty minutes. This will help put the colors in. Now, the new tie dye Tee shirt is ready to wear!
Note: Colors may still run, so it’s best if you wash your hands and hang to dry.
10. Use Kool-Aid to Check for Toilet Tank Leaks
Do you hear water running inside your toilet tank between flushes? There is probably a leak that needs to be repaired. An easy way to detect a leak is to use Kool-Aid. A brown colored drinking powder works best because you can see it better.
Carefully remove the lid from the toilet tank and set aside. Open the package of Kool-Aid and pour it into the tank. The test can take as little as ten minutes or as long as thirty minutes, depending on the size of the leak. It’s not usually a secret! Just watch the toilet bowl. If you see colored powder floating out of the tank, then a leak is present. It’s probably quite a flapper piece. But you will have to determine the exact cause.
