A mound can enhance a framed painting, especially a watercolor of color or shape, and separate it from the frame by giving it an edge. The picture can be mounted directly on the table mount. A precision mount, however, which has a “window” in it through which the painting is viewed, provides a more complete and professional finish. The cut mount also protects delicate pastels and watercolors by separating the painting from the glass.
Mounted paintings can be purchased from art supply shops, in various thicknesses, sizes and colors. Color is a matter of personal taste, but it should either contrast or blend with the color of the table, the color of the wall on which the picture is hung, and the general tone of the picture itself. A thickness of 2mm (1/16th inch) is most suitable.
Climbing the cut mountain
You will need: a straight line; heavy duty scythe mowing; square set; rule and cutting board. The board can be a piece of 25mm (1 inch) thick wood that is longer and wider than the straight length.
Place the straightedge through the center of the cutting board, and partially screw in two small screws for the straightedge. Measure and note on the face of the mountain to reduce the size framing and picture size. It allows the picture window edges to be more than 6mm (¼ inch).
Make the bottom edge 13mm (½ inch) wider than the rest; this is to compensate for the optical illusion that makes the margin around the central image appear narrower at the bottom. The sides and edges of the top should not be less than twice the thickness of the body.
Use a square set to mark the position of the window on the mount, and see that the corners of the window and the mount are at right angles, and the sides of both are parallel.
Place the mount on the spare paper and slide it under the linen. Holding it firmly against the screws, he cut out the window, using firm pressure with the blade of the knife. If you want, the blade can be about 45 degrees from the spelling, to give the edge of the fitted window. cut the center and carefully clean the corners of the window with a knife and a piece of glass with fine grade paper. Use a straightedge and a knife to cut the mount to the size of the frame.
Up the picture
Place the picture, with the mount on top of it, on the table, with both pictures, and go up on the table, projecting on the edge. Place the picture so that it is centered in the window. Use one hand to hold the mount and image together, and with the other hand apply two pieces of adhesive tape to the underside of the image and mount. Roll over the mount and image, and fix the drawn edge of the machine on top of the image. Remove the tape from the bottom edge.
