Recently AC writer Jeff Musall wrote this article about Congressman Joe Wilson yelling at President Obama. In the article, Jeff states that Joe Wilson is a member of the “Sons of Confederate Veterans”, which is a popular occupation (paraphrased there). This, of course, goes back to the claim of many liberals that any President Obama should do because of his race.
Actually, some people really believe that Obama is people of color only because of the color of his skin. It never occurs to them that they are really only defending against the Obama administration. But many liberals use race cards to try to get the right wing to be quiet so they don’t get called racist. But I digress, this article is really about the “daughters of Confederate Veterans”, the South and also a little bit about the Civil War. .

I think groups like “Confederate Veterans” generally attract people with a love of history and southern heritage. And so I can see where some white racist jerks are attracted to a group like this. But I honestly don’t believe that a group should be disrespected by the thinking of a few of its members. That would be like saying that all democrats are scumbags because of the far-left members of the party who hate America.
Some people like to portray the Civil War as being only about slavery and Abraham Lincoln as a saint. Both facts are false. This war, like most wars, was about money and power. The richer ones sold arms or weapons to one or both sides.
The average Union soldier was probably fighting to preserve the Union. The average Confederate soldier was fighting to defend his country and his life. The rich and the poor on both sides roused themselves to fight, which you often see happen in this country at all wars.
The rich slave masters wanted to save their lives and income, so they told the poor to destroy their lives to the damned Yankees. The newspapers on both sides incited the people into a frenzy to go to war.
Abraham Lincoln was not a true friend of the slaves except those who freed them who were more striking against the Confederacy than trying to help the slaves. Abraham Lincoln wanted to round up the slaves and force them out of the country. His solution was to send all African Americans out of the United States to fend for themselves elsewhere.
Lincoln also had abuse of power imprisoning people who opposed his views, illegal military drafts, and ignoring Congress when it suited him. Sounds progressive to me. For this reason the liberal school system was controlled by Abraham Lincoln, a saint.
I have covered some of my interest in civil and the confederate flag in this article. It is a response to the attack on the Confederate flag Jim in the previous article. We in the south have been labeled racists so often on the flag and others, we now ignore the term. Racism has been suffused with so many falsehoods that real racism can now be ignored.
The “Sons of the Confederacy” are not a racist group, but a historical one in my eyes. I will probably join soon, if for no other reason, because they are under attack from the left.
