Turkey sandwiches are great – about a day or two. Then it only takes the old fashioned to eat your leftover turkey on bread. There are so many other creative things to do with leftover turkey and all the leftovers from the Thanksgiving dinner. Here are a few of my favorites.
We always have so many leftovers, even though we usually only cook six pounds of turkey breast. We love leftovers almost as much as we enjoy Thanksgiving dinner. Because we love them so much, we plan to have leftovers ahead of time so we can make some of our favorite meals out of them. When I combine turkey inslow cooker, always do what we put in potatoes and carrots , although we do not serve it with dinner. The reason you cook it is to have leftovers to use in recipes on Friday or Saturday.
A favorite recipe is Turkey Pot Pie. It’s very simple to make and use all your leftovers together if you want to do that. You start by picking all the meat out of the turkey after dinner, tearing it apart and cleaning up any unsavory bits. Then put the meat and leftover veggies in the fridge, along with your leftover lunch.
The next day or the weekend itself, when it’s time, you put pot pies together, they have surpassed the Turkish meat. in a large bowl. Then chop the roasted veggies into small chunks and add them. If you have green beans left over, you can add them, but I will warn you, I don’t know if leftover green beans would be good for a casserole, just we would have green beans. But if you are more daring, throw the casserole into the pile. Mushroom soup will add some creaminess. The grain must be absolute. If you have good corn, but the plan is to add corn, just in case. Drain the grain before adding. I’ve never put my survival on the line, but I know he’ll be hit for sure.
Mix all these things together, and if there is any sauce left over, throw that in too. If not, mix a pot of gravy from the turkey. you can add the sauce until the filling is the thickness you want in the pot pie. Everything that you want to mix, put it all in a scriber and put it on top of the upper crust. Class fit would be better pie crust but what’s going on in your kitchen doesn’t kill me. . Bake at 350 degrees until the crust is brown and the filling is heated through, usually 30-40 minutes. Let it rest for 10-20 minutes after you take it out of the oven before cutting. This clots very easily. You can separate the filling in freezer bags and have it fresh when you want to cook it. Or you can make a whole pie and chill it raw. Just put it in the fridge and cook as usual. Lots of times, I make lots and lots of little versions of pot pies in pyrex bowls. You just roll out the smaller slices, fill, top, and wrap the whole thing, plate and all, in a board saran wrap. Then a layer of tin foil. Don’t forget the top label. Then you’ll have individual serving pots of pie ready for months to come. As before, though, they will take less heat and less cooking time than full-sized ones.
This year, since we live in a hotel and don’t have an oven, I will turn the pot plans to experiment with turkey and quesadillas this year as well.
