Alabama has a wealth of natural wonders. Most of these wonders fall under the Alabama State System. There are a few who are privately employed. Desoto Caverns Park is a private cave. Desoto Caverns is located in Childersburg, a little over 30 miles from Birmingham. The theme theme Park is designed around a cave. It’s a lot of fun sometimes. Plan at least a ½ day in public parks. Children should be a big fan.
Desoto Caverns was the reason my family visited the park last April. It’s an “easy” cave tour. The walkers are bright and there are guardrails. Well also lit. So safety was a concern. This was the first cave, and I also walked far into the cave. Travel about 1 m. The main point is the size of the field. It is mass. It keeps you going through the tunnels. The guide tells you about the history of the cave in relation to native-american-crafts, the Spanish and the Confederates Native. It makes a lot of difference, so pay attention. They also have laser pointers inside the cave. The show uses lasers, lights, and water to tell the story of creation. They get the highest marks from me for that! It was great. The kids really enjoyed it too. They were not afraid at all.
The cave is the main attraction. The theme park comes with 25 other attractions offered at Desoto Caverns. Check the website before you go. See all the lures of deciding how many you think about doing. Tickets are sold on cave tour and the number of attractions you are thinking of doing. Family 4 Fun Pac. We did that. That gave us 4 cave tours and 20 attractions for $99. That was enough. Some of my girls have repeated compliments and others are to be avoided altogether. We did not buy food after we left there. A PAC upgrade does not include food.
There are over 20 attractions. Some are more fun than others. A few of our favorites were gold, feeding goats, Maze, Bella Cannon, and Maze Squirt guns. They enjoyed many other attractions. Much of the beauty of the water is involved. Go prepared with towels and maybe a change of clothes. Games also tend to be competitive. My kids enjoyed the squirt gun maze for obvious reasons. You run around with a huge water gun shooting your parents! Bring on the rain. Flies and mosquitoes abound in certain areas of the garden.
They also have a really nice gift shop. The kids spot is a gift shop a mile away. We collect information from the places we visit. They can be hard to find. They had backpacks, rocks, geodes, candy, shirts, videos and jewelry. Aid was published.
Desoto Caverns also has a campsite. They have an RV hookup and primitive sites available. The grounds are nice and clean. If you are brave, the church and scout troops can camp inside the cave. We didn’t try that. Information for camping on their website.
Desoto Cave is a great family daytrip. It seems to be the first priy. It is well worth it. Take the kids and challenge them to many races, wars, and competitions. Then all with a trip through a wonderful cave above. Family fun at its best.
