Volunteer Opportunities in South Florida

Volunteering in the local community can be very rewarding. It draws your focus outside of yourself, thinking about the needs of others. Here are two large organizations running national, primarily in donations and volunteers, located in South Florida.

Habitat for Humanity’s purpose is to provide refuge to those in need through the teachings of Jesus Christ. Indeed, their mission statement affirms “It is necessary for humanity to work in partnership with God and people everywhere, from all levels of life, so that promote communities with people in need to build and renovate homes, so that there are decent homes in decent communities where everyone can experience God’s love and live and grow in all that God intends.

To bid in the South Florida area, you have two options. You can attend the monthly volunteer meetings held at 10am or early Saturday at the Habitat ReStore, 2299 NW 77th Terr., Miami, FL 33147 or you can complete an online orientation found at www.miamihabitat.org which should take about 20 minutes. Once this is done, you can make an account to access the Volunteer Hub showing you the different housing projects you can work on. If for some reason you can volunteer, there are various other positions that need your help such as Community Outreach, Miami Housing, Family Services, Family Choice, Offices, Legal Services, Clerical Assistance and Fundraising. This is an excellent organization, especially for high school work for their community service hours.

This second ordinance, which is near and dear to my heart, is the Reverence of Life. They are committed to helping young mothers in our community with the love and support they need to raise a family. Their mission is this: “Respecting the life of the Ministry of the Archdiocese of Miami, the faithful Magisterium of the Catholic Church, as the holiness and dignity of the whole Human life exists from conception to natural death.Life provides respect for material resources, genres and programs.

There are several seats in which you can offer. Before you can offer, you should attend the Life Issues Workshop (available in English and Spanish) to learn more about the program and to know if this is something you would like to pursue. Check the Respect Life website at www.respectlifemiami.org for dates and times to book reservations. When you’re done, log in at www.virtus.org and choose the next Virtue Seminar to attend (if you haven’t yet). The purpose of this seminar is to volunteer to identify the behavior of child abuse or abuse. . The next step is to go to the Power site, find the nearest location, and make an appointment. Then, you can go to Virtue and print the certificate that you will then present to the first to offer the first day at any center.
