Through my natural hair journey – yes it’s a journey – I’m always on the lookout for products like my hair changing needs. One product that has been hard for me to find is a good leave in conditioner. A fellow naturalist and friend of mine swears by a product from Kinky-Curly called Knot Today. So when I won an Amazon gift card, I decided to buy a bottle and give it a try. I found this product to be easy to do with my three natural hairstyles.
Wash and go safe
When you see the term “wash and go” that seems like an easy hairstyle. You think you can just wash your hair and go about your business for the day. That couldn’t be further from the truth for its kinky nature, curly-hair. When I was washing and going, I had to apply a moisturizing, curl-enhancing product (on smaller sections) and cab. oil or butter to seal in the moisture. Then throughout the day I had to carry a bottle of water to spray, to repair my hair and use a small amount on my hair. to help lock in the moisture. That he hardly washes and goes. But when I tried to wash mine today with Knot, I took four steps to go;
- wash.
- Apply Knot today to dye your hair.
- Remove dry hair with paper towels.
-
I sleep at night with a plastic cap and a tied headscarf. The next morning I refresh my spritz with water and oil.
Kinky Twists or Two-Stand Twists
If you have a big head like I do, creating kinky twists (two-layer twists) can be a chore that takes a few hours. However, I found that today when I applied the Knot to my dry hair, I cut my twist time in half.
- I separated the hair into four sections without a comb (so, there won’t be any “hard parts” in the hair.
- Today I put a knot on one section and tried to pull it through the hair.
- I have created individual kinky links within this section. I prefer smaller ones, but you can create bigger ones if your hair is long enough to pull them back.
- Repeat steps two and three for the remaining three parts.
-
I like to leave a twist on my protective style. I also put two large flat twists or crown twists around my head for an elaborate braided hairstyle. Usually two days before wash day I remove twists and wear hair in kinky curls (from me kinky twists).
Bantu Knots
Another natural hairstyle I love to do is the knot set or Bantu Knot. To get a kinky twist this usually takes me a few hours because I need to smooth each section with a curl enhancing product or hair< /a> before to form a knot. When I started using Knot today, I used the same steps I followed for my kinky twists, but instead of twists I created knots. Most people use Bantu Knots to spit to make bigger curls more defined and less kinky. While I will eventually use a knot intended for this purpose, I will also wear them as a natural hairstyle.
These are three of my favorite natural hairstyles made easy by Kinky-Curly’s Knot Today. This leave-in conditioner is ideal for coarse and thick hair types. If you have fine hair, it is recommended to use Knot Today as a leave-in conditioner. However, as many naturals are found, the recommended use of the product is not always the best use of the product on our hair. So if you have fine hair, give Knot Today a chance to say goodbye to the Conditioner to help with your hair styles. . You can purchase the knot today at CurlMart or directly from Kinky-Curly for $12.
