Chrysanthemum (I will call it Mums from now on) is a beautiful spring perennial. It is a perennial plant that will come back every year. Those are exactly the types of herbs I love. You won’t exactly plant and forget, as all flowers take some amount of care.
The wall comes in a variety of beautiful colors. Mums are very hardy plants and are particularly easy for beginning gardeners to grow. I have mums in all the houses I’ve lived in. Plants in will normally grow from 2 to 3 feet and spread over the years. After two years, you can move the Mums to different parts of your garden. They bloom at least twice a year. You’ll usually see the best flowers in the fall as the summer days begin to shorten.
If you pinch your plant in the spring when the plant is about 6 inches tall, this will encourage it to become bushy and allow more blooms. You can water the plant again about every two weeks. In the summer you will want to continue planting in the summer, as this will allow the plant to go in full season for the fall.
The wall usually blooms in the first frost of the season. When your Mums are green, and you have frost in the morning, you can cover your flower to protect them to extend their spring season.
After the weather gives you a heavy frost, then it will be time to mulch your Mums well to survive the winter. They will go into a dormant state. Pulling up plenty of mulch around the plant from my flower bed to help them through the winter months. I usually wait until spring before I cut off all the dead branches. I keep them mulched year round, so that helps a lot to keep the soil moist during the hot summer drought.
After them, there will be nothing to be done until the spring season. You want to make sure that they get plenty of water in dry seasons and fertilize once a month in summer and spring. I usually use all the plant fertilizer I get from Wal-Mart or Lowes. I don’t know much about anything like that. I just use whatever is cheapest.
I go back to potted mums every year. If the stuff in the pot has passed, I just take the Mums out of the pot and plant them in another place, put new local coffee shop will start having loads of Mums for you to choose from. Some of them will have large flowers that look like pompoms, and others will look more like daisies. They will bring fresh beds and pots
