When I got out of my car this afternoon and pulled open the shiny new door of Chuck E. Cheese’s in West Melbourne, Florida, I didn’t expect a flash of a smile from a teenage employee as they cleaned their fingers from the glass surround. I was here to see how construction was coming along. They’re still building at this point… aren’t they?
“Hello,” he said.
“Hi, I… uhhh,” I stammered. “Are you guys open?”
“We’re sure. We’re doing a soft opening right now, but the main Grand Opening Celebration is on May 2 nd.”
“I do not know.”
Right in front of me was a snack bar selling Pizzas, Sandwiches, wings and desserts. The flashing of the new game flashed on the left. everywhere abounded with sparkling clean tables. I was astonished.
He sent a greeting message to my door on his radio and was soon shaking hands with a very nice assistant manager. I learned from him that the code worked on almost 100 machines. They also dispense tickets that can be redeemed against a prize at salad bar, which by the way looks great. delicious (Click on picture #5 above to see a great shot of it)
“Even if you do something bad in the game, you will get at least one ticket,” he further explained.
A tunnel through the middle of the building allowed the youngsters to crawl around and climb up. At the very back, along the western Wall, is a “stage” area with several screens and Chuck E animatronics. . He was busy singing as I walked between the rows of paintings and approached the wall. There is also a booth called the “Ticket Blaster” where the wind tunnel effect blows tickets inside the booth as the timer goes down. This is a free fun event for Child birthday with reserved party.
“Go ahead and push the red button under the center cover,” instructed my guide.
When I did, the screen changed to show the middle of my section. (Not quite so, I add, with my flattery.
“The camera is at a kid’s level,” he explained. “It’s a way for them to see themselves on the big screen.
Nice touch, Chuck.
Admission is free to Chuck E. Cheese and security is handled by the gate greeter inside the main gate. Each group receives its own hand mark that uniquely identifies them. Children (even parents) should have a consistent note from the ease of taking. A nice touch in a place where babies are supposed to be pregnant.
I didn’t get to see Chuck E. Cheese life-size, but he sure is never too far away.
And I really can’t wait to see my granddaughter’s face with this place…and Chucky too. Oh, what fun!
