Why is the subject of social studies important? Why should students learn social studies? I’ve been asked these tough questions by my teachers in the past. I got answers like “Because of you and only that” and “Because you need to learn about the history of our world.” These answers never satisfied my inquisitive nature, nor did my lack of satisfaction spill over into my motivation to learn social studies in general. Starting to answer these questions as a future teacher, I immediately think of all the negative experiences I had in my social studies. /a> types. I think about taking those classes that he absolutely hated at school, and that’s why I’m looking deeper into the answer. After such research, I realized that social studies is an important subject for many reasons. I also understand that my experiences with this subject as dull in the past will make me a better teacher.
The study of social discipline is important because of its main purpose. Here we have a very important and central goal of creating “good citizens”. Well, that sounds nice, but what does this mean? For me, the idea here involves the creation of objective, informed, responsible, open-minded, and curious people. As teachers, we want to help children become positive members of their communities. We want children to achieve the ability to become independent in every aspect. Indeed, we want children to be knowledgeable about the world in which they live. This goal of developing “good citizens” is huge, but it’s the impact we’ll have as teachers in adulthood. Through the teaching of social studies, we can shape our students into respectful citizens. The results of teaching social studies speak volumes for the matter.
But another goal of this is to help children learn to deal with problems. Today’s children are facing more problems than I faced in school. Children are abused and subjected to domestic violence. Children are in groups and on drugs. Children are committing crimes and need help. These are just some of the challenges that children have to deal with in their lives and as they grow into adulthood, they find more challenges. The ability to solve problems is probably the most important skill any person should have. For this reason, social studies are important. There is a catch here though. If social studies is not taught in such a way that problem solving prevails, that system is broken. This is where good teaching comes in. When you find a good social studies teacher, you will find a good problem solver.
The value of social studies lies in its content. Most people think of history when you talk about social studies. History examines new and continuing forces. His study enables us to understand the relationship between the present and the past, the mistakes and triumphs that this world has made throughout time, the pattern of future behavior. Another area of social studies content is geography. Geography enables students to find answers to questions about the world around them. Through geography people can learn about other cultures, places and environments. Students learn about the different people and places that this world holds, and such knowledge brings them respect. and other cultures and regions. With social studies, a better understanding of the world and knowledge can be a very powerful tool.
The real issue here is “how” to teach social studies. As I said before, my experiences with social studies were very negative. Social studies hate me because I don’t know how to teach them the same way. I don’t want my students to shed tears. I intend to bring history to life in my classroom by having guest appearances made by some well-known historical figures in teaching the students. I know that if I had actually met the historical figure in my past classrooms, I would have enjoyed that learning experience much more. I also plan to include different resources in my classroom so that I don’t rely so heavily on art. Early resources such as literature, poems, pictures and documents of the world can really get some children interested in learning things. Videos, charts, and three-dimensional diagrams or figures can stimulate the interest of some visual learners. I understand that social studies holds important information for all learners. I understand that the teaching of social studies is not as dry and boring as it used to be. I understand that being a future teacher is a great job for my future students, and I hope that my contribution to their lives will be enough. I understand a lot about social studies and its necessary inclusion in classrooms, but I still have a lot to learn about its instruction.
