As a doctor of optometry, I have often been asked about Latisse. Latisse is a new formulation of eye drops that are used in glaucoma. Latisse eyelash growth promotes and thickens. My office manager used Latisse for just a week’s fix. Below is the transcript of a conversation we recently had.
Dr. W.: Why do you decide to use Latisse?
Office Manager: Well as I’ve gotten older I’ve noticed a big change in the thickness and length of my lashes. They became lighter in color, and I had spots in the middle of my eyelashes on my left lid, having no lashes; A bold passage, if you will. I was becoming more and more self-conscious and felt that I needed to find some solution.
How often do you use the drops?
Not as often as the manufacturer recommends, certainly. I remember using drops. In the morning after my shower (when) my face is completely free of all makeup, then I do my makeup about an hour later. The manufacturer suggests that you apply it every night after your makeup. I applied the liquid to the lashes, a drop, sometimes two, in the provided brush, and I lightly wiped the upper lash line with my eyes closed. I allow any residual fluid to flow to the bottom of my lashes so I close my eyes for about 30 seconds before opening them.
When did you first start to see changes in your eyelashes?
I first noticed a change in Latisse within the first two weeks of using it. The manufactures say that the first 30 days they normally notice no change in the lashes but the 30 second day is when the change will be obvious.
What did you say about your lashes because you used Latisse? staying?
The only side effect that we noticed was a slight darkening around the upper lid. Do not fix any makeup.
Do you still use mascara or other eye makeup?
I still use mascara and I put this on every time, so I’m excited because it looks like your lashes will grow more. I love curled lashes then applying mascara, the lashes almost reach my forehead and this is so exciting for me.
How long do you plan to use Latisse?
I plan on using it as long as I can. I don’t use it hard, I just use it as part of my diet, not really other than wearing mascara.
