Dana Jacobson and Kelly Tilgham: Whose foot is further from his mouth? What is worse on this earth? Saying you’re going to lynch a celebrity or someone saying “f*** Jesus?” In the past two weeks, the biggest controversy has come from the two major networks: ESPN and the Golf Channel. As most of you have heard, Kelly Tilgham spoke on the golf channel about how the other Tour players should overthrow and “lynch him.”
It is clear that there is a commotion. A little more recently, Dana Jacobson, an ESPN on-air personality, had a drunken “roast” of his “Mike and Mike Show” colleagues. Some highlights include “f*** Notre Dame “f*** touchdown Jesus, and leaving him with Jesus. She was stripped and later suspended for a week. Neither of these two women’s on-air personality will be cracked, but that one is worse.
One saving grace for Kelly Tilgham is that she is friends with Tiger Woods. Oftentimes, you can get away with saying the darndest things you want about your friends. nor ever about anything. Just happened to do it on live TV. He doesn’t do this anymore, but when Tiger Woods comes out and says he forgives you and knows you don’t mean anything. But if someone gives a little relaxation. Again, I don’t mince words, but when you attack one person, it should be their right to decide whether they don’t like it or not. Not knowing their relationship, it is difficult to tell us how the forest tigers must feel.
On the other hand, ESPN personality Dana Jacobson was at work at the event. Not only is he drunk, but he certainly is not corporate events. If he wants to get drunk on his own time, that’s one thing, but I don’t know many companies that want to get you drunk. If any ordinary person shows up drunk or intoxicated at a work event, they are fired. On top of that, he insisted on getting up and down the stage several times and deliberately degrading the religious figure. Now, why isn’t there more media coverage of what he said? It is likely that so many people find it easy to let go of religion and the larger structure of faith. Imagine if he said “f*** blacks” or “f*** Jews”. I think there would be a lot of wrongdoing. He reads the media and chooses his controversies and I believe they are missed in this one boat. His comments are insulting and his actions are worse. If ESPN puts it back on the air, I think it’s doing a disservice to itself and the rest of the country. Because what many people don’t hear doesn’t make it any better.
Again, Kelly Tilgham made the slide that one man made. Dana Jacobson made a comment that millions of people believe. I know that if any normal American acted and commented the way Dana Jacobson did, they would be fired. In contrast to Tilgham, he only stated one thing which was the elegance of words. Jacobson’s comments were obviously overstated and rather repetitive. that is where the line is crossed.
