I was sitting in the trailer, the cold air conditioner became colder because of the sweat on my forehead. My heart rate quickened, and my hands were trembling slightly. Suddenly the receptionist said the magic word: “Prior, they are ready for you.” Standing at my feet, I could feel the world. After taking a deep breath, I made my way to the audition room. Unfortunately, in this particular hearing I get the best of hearing pressure. However, I used this learning experience.
Auditions are full of pressure for the actor. Some book gigs simply increase the amount of food. For others, booking a gig means having rent or food to eat. Hearing pressure takes time, but several tips can make this process easier.
As players we tend to think about everything. While this is beneficial, when the time comes to implement it, this tendency to overthink can spell disaster for the audience. This is especially true if you have a lot riding on this one audition.
Since the matter itself is of great importance, it is necessary not to succumb to your thoughts. Before you enter the audition room, recognize the importance of the audition. Don’t pretend the audition isn’t important. But do not dwell on this moment. Once you know your audience, move on. Put an invisible shield on your mind so that nothing can break this shield. By doing so, you help remove self-inflicted pressure.
Stay confident
An actor who does not trust is an actor who is determined to fail. No matter what you are going through in your personal life, always strive to be the best and remain confident. the confidence of the players is easily swayed. You might have had a few terrible auditions or maybe you didn’t get the book gig you thought you would get. In any case, do not let this confidence waver. Remember: when you have confidence, you can handle anything. Confidence will take away all the power of hearing – at least the severity of this pressure.
