Towson University

I am a serious advocate for college attendance and am trying to challenge my favorite of the two colleges I attended: Towson University. Towson University is located in Towson, Baltimore County, Maryland, eight miles north of downtown Baltimore.

Towson University was founded in Baltimore in 1866 as a public normal school, but changed to Towson in 1915. In 1935, it was renamed Towson State Teachers College, followed by Towson State College in 1963. name changed again, Towson State University (1976), before finally changing to Towson University in 1997.

The school offers more than 100 majors for more than 21,000 students with 75% as graduates and 25 graduates. The training has a student-faculty ratio of approximately 17 students to one teacher. The teaching faculty totals approximately 1,600 teachers with over 800 full-time and over 750 part-time. They have a staff of approximately 1,300 and 600 part-time staff assistants, library and cafeteria workers.

As Maryland’s second largest public university, Towson offers bachelor’s degrees in majors such as Business Administration, Psychology, Mass Communication, Nursing, and Elementary Education. It also offers master’s and doctoral degrees in programs such as Information Technology, Human Resource Development, Education Training, Education, Technology Institution. Students can choose from 63 undergraduate majors, 44 master’s programs and four doctoral programs.

Under half of undergraduate students receive financial aid and over half of undergraduate students receive tuition assistance. Tuition for the 2010-2011 school at Towson comes in at just under $8,000 for in-state students and under $20,000 for out-of-state students. -status of students Annual room and board for the same academic year costs less than $10,000. Towson University’s trident is Don, the tiger, representing his school’s colors of gold, white, and black. There are 20 Division I athletic teams with 13 women’s sports and 7 men’s sports.

Towson University is ranked 10th among the best public teacher training institutions in the US. News & World Report‘s 2011 America’s Best Colleges Guide. In the 2010 list of “America’s Best Colleges” in Forbes, Towson was listed as one of the 100 “Best College Buys”. For the 2010-2011 academic year, TU was named one of the top 100 best value public colleges by Kiplinger’s Finance Personal magazine. Towson University prides itself on being a green college and has also been ranked in the Princeton Review’s list of Green Colleges for two years in a row. More than 5% of Towson’s electricity comes from renewable resources with 10% of that solid waste being incinerated and going that way.

Towson University was the first four-year institution in Maryland to go completely smoke free; The rule was first put into place on August 1, 2010. Over the years, Towson hosts approximately 800,000 visitors and 10,000 meetings, conferences and special events. Towson radio stations, WTMD Radio (89.7FM) has one of the largest audience audiences in Maryland public radio. .

Towson school is a low-cost school that will provide the most in education for students and the most in preparing the student for the world outside the classroom. .
