Most people don’t think about chickens while they’re drinking a cup of coffee, but the Newman family does. Hollywood icon and career legend, Paul Newman, founded New Organic Own in 1993. Since then, Newman himself has donated millions of dollars to thousands of charities around the world.
Now, Newman Organics is helping women in Oaxaca, Mexico with organic chicken to help feed their families. In partnership with Green Mountain Coffee Roasters and CoffeeKids, New Man has developed a unique farming system that not only provides food for these women and families, but also improves the family economy.
Previous philanthropic efforts by the Newman family include a $500,000 pledge to the Victoria Junction Gang Camp. In honor of Adam Petty, the late career-reading son of Kyle Petty and his wife Pattie, Victoria Associates is providing a place for doctors to enjoy safe children with serious illness.
I admit. I’ve always had a “thing” for Paul Newman. After all, who can resist blue eyes, who can resist the beauty and modesty of the face? Add to that his amazing charity in his work and I simply could not resist his company. Due to the adoration of Paul Newman, I did not hesitate to try another coffee. I was not cheated.
The new Organic specialty coffee contains 100-percent Arabica beans that are considered to produce the best coffee flavor. Currently, the company offers seven coffee varieties: Café Almond Biscotti, Colombian Special, Nell’s Breakfast Blend, French Roast Noviman, Special Noviman Blend, New Decaf Special and Vanilla Caramel.
My personal favorite is the Special Note Blend; full of strong mixed fat flavor. A combination of medium and dark roasts, the Special Blend is not only mobile in the morning, it is also the perfect coffee drink; especially those made into frozen yogurt or ice cream. Yum!
New French Roast is my second favorite. My husband isn’t a big fan of French roast coffee, so I’ll save this blend for days when he’s out of town. I like to serve Newman French Roast when I have girlfriends over for coffee and dinner. It is perfect for dipping biscotti and combining pound cake and pecan paste.
Colombian Special is a good choice for everyday coffee. It’s a lighter roasted coffee and doesn’t leave a heavy aftertaste in your mouth. This coffee is excellent to serve to guests, as it is a middle-of-the-road varietal. It’s not too bitter or too heavy and suits almost everyone’s palette. Colombian especially treats shortbread cookies, Snickerdoodle cookies and apple pie.
I only had the opportunity to try Nelli Miscendi. It seems that this is the most popular mix in the area because it always sells out of it. Nellie, as I recall, offers a milder flavor and consists of lightly roasted and medium beans.
I’m not a big fan of flavored or decaf coffee, so I’m not into Cafe Almond Biscotti,Vanilla Caramel or New Decaf Special. However, I dare say they are probably quite tasty and live up to Newman’s reputation.
