Owned by Philadelphia restaurant tycoon Stephen Starr, Midtown Continental is pretty hip. The restaurant is located at 1801 Chestnut Street, in Philadelphia PA in the middle of Philadelphia’s vibrant night life. I visited Mid Continental because I gave a 75.00 gift certificate to any of Stephen Starr’s restaurants. I chose Continental Midtown because of the pictures I saw on Stephen Starr’s website.
In the pictures, the Continental Midtown looks beautiful in the dark at night with a groovy, youthful cool atmosphere. On the spot, it is clear that the color scheme of the restaurant is a mixture of blue and dusty silver.
Coming to the Midtown Continental, it did not disappoint at all. Inside was a sort of silver chandelier suspended from the ceiling. I say chandeliers because what I am referring to resembles long cylinders hanging from the ceiling. They were beautiful, and the scheme of the place was a color mix of blue and silver. The room was made of chairs so that I could see the baskets the grill. The best thing about these baskets was that they were suspended from the ceiling. Therefore, when my friend and I were sitting in the chairs, we could make out as we ate. Regular seats were available at the bottom of the restaurant.
The menu at the Midtown Continental was very affordable and creative. For seventeen dollars you can get what is called Lobster Mac n Chese. The food is delicious, and I will treat it. It has about three types of cheese in it. It is made with risotto pasta and comes with juicy lobster worms. On top of the macaroni is a crust of crispy bread. Other choices on the menu include fried shoes that are dipped with honey/a>. A friend and I shared these for our appetizers, and they were delicious. We were served a huge pile of fries that came on oval plates. There were so many fries that we two French lovers couldn’t finish them all.
Other features on the menu include New York Strip Steak among other tasty and affordable meals. The waitress was very kind and even told us what the favorite dishes were, while not being offended if we wanted something else. Her service was prompt and polite, and although I was friendly and young, I did not feel that the maid was looking at us as if she did not expect us to sleep. We’re well on our way because I was able to put in a gift card tip! Between my friend and I, we shared a tasting, two entrees, two desserts. Also we ordered two drinks. I had to fill up on pineapple juice which was not free. With only a seventy-five dollar gift card, we still have a twelve dollar tip left over.
I would like to visit the Middle Continent again and again even without a gift card. It is a great place for people to have lunch.
