If you’re in Prague and looking for an Irish pub experience, Molly Malone’s pub might just be for you. A short walk from the Old Town Square, you’ll find Molly Malone’s friendly pub, conveniently located in the center of Prague, but not overrun by tourists. (See below for specific directions).
This is not necessarily a true Irish pub in the sense that its decor is much more eclectic than you would like. you are waiting in an Irish pub. That said, Molly Malone’s can create that cozy feeling that Irish pubs have. Dark wood has many, many corners and cracks, and also fire. And of course, the dart board is a simple salad.
There is a small food menu, but unless you’re really into Irish dishes, Molly Malone’s is not the place to eat; it’s a place to drink. Most of the sandwiches are from the menu. Irish sausage with fried is good for 120,-kc. Irish bacon and egg also 120, kc. Chips (or french fries) are extra and cost 30, -kc. Molly’s has Bangers and Mes dish, and it costs 190,-kc. Surprisingly, there is no fish & Football is on the menu.
The bar at Molly Malone is one of the best established bars in Prague. Highlights include a collection of eleven different Irish Whiskeys, including two single malt varieties. There are ten types of Scotch whiskey with five single malts. There are seven types of rum, including the Russian brand, Stolichnaya, which is rare in Prague. Better yet, the prices are quite reasonable. Bushmill or Jameson is 90, kc. Bushmill 10th year is 130, kc. Johnnie Walker Black 90,-kc while Glenfiddich 12 Year 140,-kc. The vodkas are 95, -kc. If you want something American, the Jack Daniels is 95,-kc and Jim Trabs 90,-kc. All these prices are quite fair, considering that everything is imported and that the Czechs don’t drink much hard liquor.
Which brings us to beer. Beer Staropramen is the Czech base beer at Molly Malone. It is a major event that sells the best beers in the Czech Republic. It has more of a hearty flavor than the more famous Czech export beer, Pilsner Urquell. At Molly’s the beer is well served here, but I have difficulty, and it is a price. At 45,-kc, it’s a bit of a rip-off. Like any good Irish pub, Molly Malone’s serves good Guinness. Most of the staff are Irish nationals and are trained to properly pour pints of Guinness. The only problem here is that they don’t serve pints, or even half liters. Molly’s, your Guinness prepared in a 0.4 liter glass. And it costs 85,000. Which is certainly better than Stowford Cider in the same glass for 90, kc. I guess it depends on how much you like your Guinness or cider.
Molly’s shots are more interesting. At 95,-kc a coin, they are well priced. I prefer Baby Guinness or Aura Bailly, but Paddy’s Headbanger sure sounds interesting.
Service at Molly Malone can be a bit overwhelming. They have a large crowd of regulars from the Prague expat community, and most of them know the staff by name, and as a result they seem to get better service, often traveller’s expense Feel free to introduce yourself, chat with the chit staff.
