The first time I heard about soy milk, I thought someone was joking. Who the heck wants to drink something made from beans? It’s hard to just eat burger patties made from soy. Soy beans are thin, but milk and drink? By no means, sir.
Then one day I came to a strange truth: I could indeed be lactose intolerant. I didn’t know that until I had kids and suddenly we had more desserts and ice cream could make me think. and my body? Well, I’m not in pain when I drink more than 4 ounces of milk, but everyone else is when I can’t breathe easily from my umm, “the air is bad. At the same time, my wife came in for a healthy kick and we had something to drink with the cereal.
From there to soy milk. But what brand should you buy? There are a few, but the most popular ones we could see were Silius the Italian and 8th Continent. After trying both, I decided what I wanted to drink. Let us say a little about the two evils. I’m going to compare the two in taste and nutrition using their vanilla soy milk flavors because that regular stuff just tastes horrible to me. First, we will give a brief history of these fabled beans.
The first brand is based on Silk from Colorado. Part of a company called White Wave Foods, a company that makes nifty other products like Earth O Lake Butter and International Delight Creamers. They were the first soy milk that could be refrigerated.
8th Container is the love child between two major companies, DuPont and General Mills. This child is becoming more and more popular, especially since Oprah’s trainer, Bob Greene, is marking this brand in health books. . Can the tough ol’s stand against the popular newcomer? Let’s put them on the mat.
Nutrition: Silk Vanilla Soy Milk, a veteran, gives you 100 calories per 8-ounce cup. These are loaded with good calories, though. Only 30 come from fat, and the rest represent the weight of 11- yes, 11- vitamins and minerals . You need half a day of B12 in that serving! And have this: only P.*7 sugar.
Spunky 8th Container of Vanilla Soy Milk is not as strong as iron, but it is a little thin. Each 8-ounce serving also has 100 calories, but only 25 of these come from fat. However, you can find only 7 vitamins and minerals in 8th Containing Vanilla Soy Milk, but they do not have as much vitamin goodness as Vanilla Soy Milk. Likewise, the 8th container is a little sweeter with P. 10 sugar. How to interpret? Silk is better for you.
Taste: The newcomer wins this easily. P. Ii extra sugar count. Frankly, the soy milk itself tasted like a bowl of water to me and yes, I tasted the dish. It was not a good practice. Some put vanilla in it, it tasted a little better. In the 8th Case of the Continent, much better. I could even drink this stuff in a glass by itself and be o.k. Not two glasses, though. It does nothing to taste silky to me, though. Sure, it was around for a while, very popular, but I’m not into that. I tried to like it. It remains to be known better than the simple version of the Italian sili. The 8th container tastes significantly better.
I guess you could even go with the 8th Continents if you’re just trying to live healthier in general. You might as well drink something that tastes good if it’s going to be good for you. However, if you really need these vitamins and you don’t like the taste of soy milk, silk is your way.
Fortunately, I live and breathe Jamba Juice, so I’ll stick with the 8 Continent.
