In my daycare home I keep separate cubbies for all my children to do their own things. In our entry way we have an 8 foot area with hooks on the wall for hanging coats, snow pants, etc. Below this is a long shelf that holds these sterile Storage containers. The kids put their shoes/boots under the shelf. It’s a pretty good set up, and the sterile items look nice.
Before I bought the Sterilite “totes” I had openings for the kids. While it was easier for the children, problem with our dog Coenobio, a little Silky Terrier. She’s big enough to get caught on her hind legs and steal kids’ clothes, socks, underwear, you name it. She never lost it, she just carried it around. I decided I needed new cubbies that had tight lids – and these sterile containers fit the bill perfectly.
Description
The containers measure a generous 14 1/4″ L x 9 1/2″ W x 6 7/8″ H. They are semi-transparent so you can see what they hold. They are made of solid resin plastic. The sides have a flat surface (no bumps or ridges) where the name I can stick the baby with a wide piece of masking tape. //e-info.vn/tag/goo-gone”>Goo Gone or vegetable oil.
These have a handy yellow handle at the top that fits into two holes. The ends can be pushed through the holes so that the flush handle sits on the lid. To carry, the handle pulls out 1 1/2″, and the area under the handle is cut. It’s easy to get my hand under the handle, but the eyelid shakes. And I have small hands. I think a a man with larger hands might have a hard good time holding onto this handle.
The containers have a 1/2″ wide lip that runs around the edges, and the plastic lid has a large 5″ long hole on each side that you screw into this lip to lock it in place.
The corners are nicely rounded and the bottom doesn’t rest directly on the shelf because of the 1/4″ ridge running around the bottom perimeter that keeps it raised. There are also two plastic “feet” on either side to help keep it on the surface. This is handy if something gets wet—not will reach the lowest portion.
Usage
When they are seen, they make a great variety of things storage. They can be used in the school, garage, office, or home. They are great in craft stores, small toys, crayons, toys, doll clothes, medicine, books, fishing; etc. The possibilities go on and on. The lids are broken, whatever the contents are, they will dry out.
Thoughts
These Sterilite items were the perfect solution to my problem, preventing a canine thief from stealing the kids’ furniture.
I’ve been using these cubbies for about 8 years and only one of them has broken, so they’re in great shape. It’s my fault it’s broken. I was washing these holding the window next to the shelf, and when I lost my balance I went right down on it. All my 120 pounds went into this plastic container. It was torn into several parts.
The sterile display boards are very easy to clean, in fact once a week we have “clean the cubbies day” and the kids have to remove everything so they can clean their cubby. . We use simple soap and water. They cost me $3.50 each, and they are well worth the price.
