Naturally, I seem to wake everyone up in the morning, so I fall asleep to the BBC radio news broadcast when it magically becomes NPR’s Morning Edition dawn. But not everyone’s circadian rhythm functions without an alarm clock, and some people need the most buzzing and piercing clocks to get out of bed sans sleep. For those heavy sleepers looking for the world’s most alarming clocks, here is a guide. At 95 decibels or higher, these clocks will probably wake up your neighbors too.
1. Excited by Ameriphone
(available at www.clarityproducts.com, www.seniorshops.com, and other sites)
The clock I found this on the site of senior citizens, so it doesn’t take any resources to answer. stimuli Combining the triple threat of a 95 decibel alarm, shaking the bed, and flashing lights, awakening awakens the collective senses of hearing, touch, and sight. Including a 9-volt backup battery, this fool-proof multi-corded contraption is one of the largest and most versatile alarm clocks in the world – any snoozer will fear it. Watch Assum sellers between $60-75.
2. Sonic Boom Scary Clock
(available at www.seniorshops.com and other sites)
Sold with (~$70) or without a bed (~$45), the Sonic Boom Alarm Clock is close competition for Wake Assure. It has an AC outlet on the back that you can plug into the house lamp for coordinated flashing. It also has a 9-volt backup battery for extra peace of mind. At 98 decibels, the white and green clock is ugly in appearance, but effective in its task of waking up your lazy ass.
The greatest fear of Clocks: 3. Magellan’s Super Large Travel Alarm Clock
(available at www.magellans.co.uk)
With 84- and 100- decibel settings, this battery-operated travel clock will alert the entire hotel to a police call. Of course, if you don’t mind feeding lots of AA batteries, it can be your home alarm clock too. Small, sleek, and with no extras, this light retails for about 20 pounds ($38). Remember the shipping factor from Britain.
4. You’re crying Meanie
(available at Access – NFSS communications: www.nfss.com)
Although it’s not a fun set as a watch, this is one of the best things on the market. Some three settings, 70, 90, or a whopping 120 decibels, Screaming Meanie is mean indeed. This alarm clock requires three locked buttons so you can’t accidentally hit snooze. It is also programmable to regulate the entire sleep period in addition to the “clock”. Operating on a 9-volt battery only, this unit sells for about $40.
