A question I am constantly asked is “Which mode of shipping is better?” Price is one of the things to be solved in this question, but it seems to many, it is also the most important. What other factors are involved in choosing between FedEx shipping or United States Postal Service? See for yourself.
If the package is less than 13oz, you can definitely consider it via United States First Class mail. It is the cheapest shipping system for a small package going anywhere in the United States; or a few notes will suffice. The USPS also offers double boxes, which can simply mean that if you have to fit a box, regardless of weight, you will be charged the extra box for that box. We experience this problem every time, because, unless it is carried out in a country, or it is unusually heavy in its size, these rates are not all great. In fact, even the largest nesting box is a mere 12″ x 12″. As mentioned before, it depends on what you are shipping, but typically we only use shipping if I am shipping internationally. You’ll note that priority mail, which is equivalent to FedEx Express services, has faster transit times and more comprehensive service. Before we move on to FedEx, I have one last complaint against the USPS regarding their tracking service. Some packages that do not arrive in more than 7 days are probably lost in transit. Online research will only show the movement from point A to B and whether it was delivered or not. Further details are unknown unless you ask for the respective Post Office contact and information.
FedEx, on the other hand, is even more expensive. The FedEx tracking number will show details as it goes through each shipping center and even a signed proof of delivery if someone is present at the time of delivery. Damages or reservations can also be viewed online. Also, cost comparison is an issue. If you are the owner small-business-accounting”>check with you FedEx small package representative discounts, etc. These will be significantly reduced prices for with any Terra or Express packages. Times are convenient even for the slowest services, Terra, but can be arranged for a hefty fee.
As much as I would love to support our government and USPS ship, they are unable to provide the tools and resources expected by the customer. I’ll admit that your package probably won’t be lost or damaged if you take the package on the same day. However, increase this number to 20-30 boats and I guarantee you will notice problems. I don’t deny that FedEx is proven or perfect, but you can track the package in the returned package or in the note. Like them, most customers choose the least expensive route, and I don’t blame them. But when their envelope is lost in the mail, it becomes a hassle to locate it and even file a claim. Save money on long distance, FedEx Ship.
