Looking for a place to hang out with the kids in Jacksonville this summer? The city certainly has a lot to offer families on the road for summer recreation. There are summer activities to suit all budgets and tastes. Here is a short rundown of a few of the best;
1. Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens
The Jacksonville Zoo and Gardens is located on Zoo Parkway. Parking is free but admission is free for you, unless you happen to be a child 2 years old or younger. It’s an up front price of $10 for kids. You can also book behind-the-scenes tours of the zoo through the Corporate Events organizer for $30 per person. I think the behind-the-scenes explanations are great for older kids. If you’re looking at one yourself, you’ll usually need to book at least two weeks in advance.
2. Museum of Science and History
The Museum of Science and History is located in the Museum Circle. It usually opens at 10 p.m. Monday through Saturday and noon on Sunday. Admission prices start at $8 for kids and $10 for adults. Many of the younger kids I know enjoy both the “Body Within” and the Florida Naturalist Center shows very much. The facility also hosts special events throughout the summer.
3. Museum of Contemporary Art
The Museum of Contemporary Art is located in North Laura. I think the best time to visit families is on Sundays from noon to 4 p.m. During that time, admission is usually waived as part of the museum’s ArtFusion program. As an event, parents can complete art projectsnsite with their children. I would also suggest visiting the ArtExplorer Loft Museum. It’s an interactive, kid-friendly area that the whole family can enjoy. The museum is typically open Tuesday through Sunday and regular admission starts at $5 for children and $8 for adults.
Adventure Landing is located on Blanding Boulevard and offers kid-friendly activities in /tag/a> Some of the activities include go-carting, and laser tag every day at 10 a.m. Prices vary according to what your family wants to do in my experience The deal will cost you about $7 per person. The best time to visit is on Saturdays when the facility traditionally offers a $10 tag that includes the arcade, laser tag and a little golf.
5. Tree Hill Nature Center
Wood Hill Nature Center is located on Lone Star Road. In my opinion, it’s fun and exciting. While there, you can take guided hikes, wander through the nature museum and interact with the animals. The facility opens at 8:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday and the price of admission starts at a modest $2 per child. My favorite time to visit is during the Butterfly Festival. It is commonly held in Ver. I like that the admission price of the festival is low and there are many free arts and activities for kids available. .
