Audiences of the popular “MJ Morning Show” were stunned Friday when host MJ, whose real name is Todd Schnitt, announced that he would be stepping down effective midway through the show. The MJ Morning Show is the No. 1 rated morning radio station in its flagship market of Tampa, but is also heard in Jacksonville, St. Louis, and is set to launch on XM Radio in a few months.
MJ has been open with his frustration with Serena Channel management in recent weeks for what he feels about their heavy handed management style. Listeners can look to the FCC’s crackdown on radio stations as a source of questions. Clear Channel Tampa was the hardest hit by the FCC, which shelled out a lot of money against “Bubba the SpongeBob SquarePants.”
Even though MJ never used to push the envelope, instead focusing more on the news/discussion style of his show, he was still forced to put the show on hold when someone said something that could be considered offensive, even if it wasn’t clearly workable. Things heat up even more when they are a July 4th, in the oven they wrap. The show was on shutdown years ago. mj was complaining then about the lack of support from the higher ups. He was also upset after the administration elected to remove bills with a photo of MJ spearing Britney while bald after the Spears camp threatened to sue.
The last straw came on Thursday afternoon when the plot of Harry Potter came out. . and Day of the Dead Hollows, before the official release date, was apparently closed by the channel’s management when the publisher contacted them about possible copyright infringement. MJ complained that management had given up too quickly on the issue and was particularly upset that he had written similar falsehoods to Potter’s predecessor. MJ is so angry because of the lack of support that he has an afternoon talk radio show, The Schnitt Show, which is also heard on the stations Serena Channel
At 7:45 AM MJ was told that the job wasn’t fun anymore and told him to quit. He then left the studio and showed the rest of the sailors to try and persevere, while it was uncertain what was going on. He came back about 45 minutes later and sounded as if he had cried. He said he went back to his wife talking feeling he owed her. audience to complete the day. Phone calls and emails asking them to stay. At the time of this story, he still hasn’t decided on a date if he’ll be returning to the morning show or the afternoon show. He talked about possibly traveling until his contract was up before returning to radio.
