Guide to the Combiner Transformers

Some of the best toys and characters from the Transformers universe are the combiners. The combiner Transformers are a group of five or six Transformers that all have some kind of theme. Each figure in the group can transform from a robot to an object but in addition to that you can combine all the figures in the group into one giant robot. Here is a guide for knowing all your combiner Transformers.

Aerialbots
You can probably guess from the name that the Aerialbots transform into airplanes. There are five members of this group of combiner Transformers. The leader goes by the name Silverbolt and is a Concorde. Ironically this Aerialbot is actually afraid of heights. Air Raid is a F-15 Eagle and is the headstrong member of the group. Fireflight, a F-4 Phantom II, is a very reckless and unsafe flyer. There is an F-16 Fighting Falcon by the name of Skydive that is the strategist of the group. Last but not least there is Slingshot. Slingshot is an AV-8B Harrier II and was the loud mouth and cocky member. Together the Aerialbots formed Superion.

Combaticons
In one episode of the Transformers, Starscream is thrown out of the Decepticons. Starscream then decides to make his own army starting with the Combaticons. The Combaticons were originally just scraps of World War II vehicles that Starscream found but he turned them into Transformers.

The leader of the group goes by the name Onslaught and can transform into a missile truck. Onslaught is a thinker and tries to think about strategy rather than attacking head-on. Blast Off has a very fitting name. Blast Off is a special shuttle (don’t ask me what a space shuttle was doing with World War II scrap). Blast Off was usually very cruel and rude, even to his own teammates. Vortex is like the Jack Bauer of the group because he likes to interrogate people. Although Vortex turns into a helicopter so he never has to yell “we’re running out of time!” all the time like Jack Bauer does. Swindle can transform into a Jeep and he is the greedy one. Swindle is always looking for a way to make some more cash. Brawl is a hothead and a loudmouth and transforms into a tank. The combined form of the Combaticons is Bruticus.

Constructicons
The Constructicons were the first group of combiners introduced in Transformers and therefore are the most well known. The Constructicons all turn into construction vehicles and then combine to form Devastator. The Constructicons are led by Scrapper a wheeled front-load shovel. Scrapper is a master constructor and often gives orders to the others. Bonecrusher is the demolition expert and transforms into a bulldozer. Scavenger is like the Aquaman of the Constructicons, when the abilities were being passed out he got the short straw. All Scavenger can do is search for stuff with his metal detector.

Mixmaster is a brilliant chemist that can come up with any kind of concoction and he comes with a concrete mixer so he can mix his ingredients, how convenient! Guess which vehicle Hook is. If you guessed he is the crane then you win! Long Haul is reduced to carrying materials back and forth as a dump truck but look on the bright side; at least he’s not a glorified metal detector.

Predacons
The Predacons are all some kind of predator/robot. Fittingly the leader of the Transformers group is a lion. He rules the Predacons like the king of the jungle. Divebomb is typically known as a loner but is forced to work with the Predacons (because they can’t just stick Bumblebee on the Predaking as an arm). Divebomb turns into an eagle. Headstrong is…exactly what his name says. He is headstrong and stubborn so naturally the Transformers creators made him a rhino. Rampage transforms into a tiger and often goes into a rage. The quality I don’t understand is Rampage is also addicted to television; I had no idea tigers liked television. The final member of the Predacons is Tantrum. Tantrum has a lot of brute strength so of course he is a bull.

Protectobot
The Protectobots are useful when some kind of emergency happens. The leader of the Protectobots, Blades, is a rescue helicopter. Despite being a mostly peaceful group, Blades is the one that likes to fight the most. Groove has a different outlook on life and hates violence of any kind. Groove turns into a rescue motorcycle. First Aid, an ambulance, never bothers with debating between peace and violence but instead just worries about helping save people’s lives. If you’re going to answer emergencies you have to be able to put out fires. Hot Spot transforms into a fire engine for just those occasions. Streetwise is the most street savvy in the bunch and transforms into a police car. Together the Protectobots form Defensor.

Seacons
The Seacons are another one of the brilliant Transformers combiner names. I bet you can’t guess what the Seacons are. They’re sea-animals! The leader of the Seacons, Snaptrap, is a snapping turtle. Nautilator transforms into a crab and is a little bit unique. Instead of forming a part of the Piranacon body, Nautilator transforms into his weapon. Overbite is good at hunting prey, which is why he transforms into a shark. However, Overbite also has legs for when he must chase his prey on land. The Seacons are rounded out with a manta ray named Seawing, a fish named Skalor and a squid named Tentakil.

Stunticons
The Stunticons aren’t just a group of cars, they are a group of stunt cars. Motormaster leads the Stunticons and is a tractor-trailer that likes to crash into other objects. Breakdown is a Lamborghini that is very paranoid that people are watching him. They probably are, you’re a Lamborghini. There is also a Porsche named Dead End that is pessimistic all the time. Drag Strip is a Formula 1 car that loves to compete and more importantly, likes to cheat. Finally there is Wildrider, a Ferrari that is a very reckless driver. Altogether they form Menasor.

Technobots
The Technobots are a group of Transformers that transform into vehicles that are supposed to look futuristic. Scattershot is the leader and transforms into a spaceship. Scattershot doesn’t use much strategy he just likes to unload ammunition on people. Afterburner turns into a Tron-like motorcycle. Strafe is a very trigger-happy space fighter. Lightspeed is car and as you can tell from his name he is believed to be one of the fastest cars in the world. Nosecone transforms into a drill vehicle but isn’t as helpful as the others due to his laziness and sluggish attitude. The five of them combine to form Computron.

Terrorcons
Galvatron used a group of Transformers called the Terrorcons to fight against the Technobots. The Terrorcons are a group of monster Transformers. One of the coolest of all the combiners is the Terrorcons leader, Hun-Grrr. Hun-Grrr transforms into a two-headed dragon that is always hungry to eat. It isn’t known exactly what Blot turns into, but it seems to be some kind of mutant. Cutthroat transforms into a pterodactyl type of beast. Rippersnapper is what is called a land shark. It’s a shark but it can also chase people on land. Finally there is Sinnertwin. Sinnertwin is a two headed dog like a Cereberus.

Trainbots
The last group of combiners in the Transformers universe is the Trainbots. If their name is the Trainbots then they are all cars. No, just kidding, they are all trains. Getsuei is an EF60 electric locomotive and is the stealthiest of the bunch. Kaen is a DE-10 Diesel locomotive and is the group’s muscle. Seizan is a Limited Express Series 485-1000 locomotive and is build to be able to handle battles in the mountains. Shouki, a Series 0 Tokaido bullet train, is the leader and the fastest of all the Trainbots. Suiken is a well-rounded train capable of fighting on any terrain. Suiken is a 153 Express locomotive. Yukikaze, a Series 200 Tohoku-Joetsu bullet train, specializes in fighting in the snow. Together they combine to make Raiden.
