Cathedral Park in Milwaukee will be filled with the sounds of jazz every Thursday night from June through September. The outdoor music series attracts people to the the square before during and after the performance. This is the 17th year of the outdoor music series, featuring the best local, regional and national musicians.
Cathedral Park is a square block park in the upscale East Town neighborhood. The trendy area is just a few blocks from the lake. The park is ringed by trendy bars and restaurants. The park hosts the Jazz series every Thursday night. Bastille Days is also entered in the park..
The jazz series takes place on Thursday evenings from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm in Cathedral Square Park. The one block square park is filled with music lovers on the lawn and in lawn chairs. People enjoy sitting in the pleasant warm summer weather, listening to a variety of great jazz sounds, drinking a glass of wine or beer and sandwich and visiting with friends. The jazz series is a relaxing, romantic, melodious series of nights in the beautiful surroundings of Cathedral Park.
The summer lineup of entertainment is as follows:
June 7: Gary Davis Band plays contemporary and smooth jazz. Acclaimed artist appeals to a diverse crowd.
June 14: Pete Carney and Orange Alert plays acid jazz. Diverse styles of music with an urban sound.
June 21: We Six play straight-ahead jazz, in the tradition of the classic groups of the hard bop era.
June 28: King Comets play jump swing, the offspring of 40’s swing.
July 5: The Bonifas Experience plays electric jazz, a cutting edge approach to jazz, combining hip-hop with traditional jazz and jazz fusion.
July 12: Bastille Days.Jill Jensen and Jack Grassel at 7 pm plays traditional jazz. Robin Pluer at 9 pm plays jazz, R&B; and French folk.
July 19: The Fareed Hague Group plays jazz and adult contemporary.
July 26: The Donna Woodall Group plays Afrobeat.
August 2: Chicago Afrobeat Project plays Afrobeat.
August 9: The Alex Wilson Band plays blues.
August 23: Gary Christensen & the All-Star SUPERband play big band jazz.
August 30: Deirdre Fellner plays jazz, blues, soul, funk and gospel
September 6: Mike Markaverich plays straight -ahead jazz.
September 13: Ray Blue and the Cross continental Spirit play traditional/contemporary jazz.
September 20: Ellen Winters Quintet plays traditional/contemporary jazz.
September 27: Streetlife with Warren Wiegratz plays R&B;/smooth jazz.
There will be food at drink available, so people can enjoy a sandwich along with a glass of wine, a beer or espresso. Food vendors include: Louise’s, Flannery’s, Ouzo Cafe, Espresso Christoph, Cowboy Kettle Korn and “M” Cafe. There is a selection of wines by the glass or by the bottle. Beers by Miller, Leinenkugel and Pilsner Urquell will be sold.
There are restaurants and bars around the park. Visitors can find a bigger selection of food and drinks in one of the trendy nearby establishments if they prefer to dine indoors in the vicinity.
