HUGGABLE HANGERS?
What is a Huggable Hanger you may ask? If you haven’t seen the advertisements, the Joy Mangano Huggable Hangers are meant to be a space saving organizational tool for your closet. These Huggable Hangers are meant to double and possibly even triple your closet space.
Each time these hangers are available on the Home Shopping Network (HSN), I had to watch the presentation. There were always testimonials from customers calling into the show who raved about the product. The demonstrations on television show how this product saves space. Yet, I was still unconvinced because customers provided mix reviews of the product online. There were some complaints of declining quality and breakage. But, there were glowing reviews online as well.
MY CLOSETS
I have a walk-in and hallway closet in my home and not too much else. Through the years, I accumulated clothes. After awhile I had so many clothes that my closets are now full. The hangers in my closets were assorted. I had wire hangers from the dry cleaners, plastic and soft and padded hangers for my delicate items. Some of my plastic hangers become bent and out of shape. Other hangers appeared to be a little worn with the special padding wearing down. I was actually getting a bit frustrated with the entire situation.
DECIDING TO ORDER
I started watching the presentation again on HSN. Usually when I see the presentations, the hanger collection always included a lot of extras that did not appeal to me, such as shoe holders, dry cleaning totes or shoe shapers. One of HSN’s Today Specials was a hanger package of 120 hangers, plus extras for the hangers including hooks and clips. I was tempted as the product was solely hangers and finally purchased the product at $119.00 plus free shipping.
I placed the order on a Sunday and arrived the following Thursday. The Joy Mangano Huggable Hangers arrived in a large box and was delivered by UPS. When I opened the box, the Huggable Hangers were nicely packed in sets of 15 hangers each. Each set was lightly wrapped with a clear plastic to fit the size of the hangers. When I held one of the hangers in my hand, I noticed how thin the hanger was (about 1/4″ wide). But, the hanger felt sturdy. The hangers were a pretty shade of blue (called Wedgewood Blue). I received 4 sets of shirt hangers, 4 sets of suit hangers for a total of 120 hangers.
THE TEST
When I made my way to the closet, I wanted to see if these Huggable Hangers would really make a difference. I took one of my favorite dresses, which was on a wire hanger, and replaced it with the Huggable Hanger. I could tell right away that the dress did not lose it shape. The wire hanger did cause my dress to have a few “dimples”. I decided to move on. As I placed each garment on one of the Huggable Hangers, I placed the old hanger on top of a box. After replacing 15 hangers, I noticed my assortment of wire, plastic and bulky hangers starting falling on the floor of my closet. It was something for me to be able to see all of the space these hangers actually took. I actually started to laugh as this was happening. Another amazing thing was that I was actually starting to see my clothes differently. My closet looked more organized and without all the different types of hangers, it was pretty to look at. I spent about an hour replacing 60 hangers with the Huggable Hangers and enjoyed the experience.
I figured the real test was to see if I could replace all of the hangers in my hallway closet with Huggable Hangers. My hallway closet currently holds my jackets, so there are quite a few of them. I was not sure how the Huggable Hangers would stand the weight of a heavy jacket.
I took one of my bulky leather bomber jackets and used one of the Huggable Hangers for suits. I did not have any problem with the jacket staying on the Huggable Hanger as it did not bend or break. I was pleased with this and replaced all of the hangers in my closet. I did find that I did have more room and was able to see all of my jackets displayed nicely on a Huggable Hanger.
THE VERDICT
I was so pleased with the performance of this product. I am a believer in Joy Mangano’s Huggable Hangers and plan to order more.
