Kansas City was recently voted one of the “Destinations to Watch” in 2009 by SmarterTravel.com, and was the only city in the United States to do so. Destinations are chosen for their own and coming, you have to see this attitude, and the city offers a good energy to tourists. Kansas City’s scene, restaurants, affordability and downtown renewal were noted as key in SmaterTravel.com’s opinion.
A major part of downtown’s revitalization includes the Kansas City Power and Light District, a bustling, bustling entertainment district that thrives in the downtown area. The Power and Light District is nine city blocks, over half a million square feet, and features well over 40 restaurants, bars, shops and concert venues. This 850 million dollar project is one of the largest renovations in the Midwest, and certainly one of the best. The Cordish Company of Baltimore named the historic project after Kansas City’s Power and Light building, the main energy company of Kansas City.
Part of the Kansas City Power and Light District is KC Live!, an entertainment lobby attraction that covers the entire city block of two stories, outdoor plaza, and many choices of transportation and restaurants. Many live events here in KC! such as Family Night and various musical series, and almost all of them are freely available to the public! One fresh trip to KC live! Patrons were found using the American-idol party to watch in the street outside. KC Live! also home to Lucky Strike Lanes, Raglan Road Irish Pub, Marc Bourbon Maker’s House and Lounge, and for the land fans is the PBR Big Sky nightclub. When you travel to Kansas City, be sure to check out the current events that are live in KC! and the Power and Light District.
The Power and Light District also has the AMC Midtown Movie Theater, which features six screens, and the Theater Theater concert venue. The largest power station in the area is the Sprint Center, located at the edge of Power and Light. The Sprint Center, which seats 18,500, hosts large concerts such as Brittney Spears and large sporting events such as basketball games. Attached to the Sprint Center is the College Basketball Experience, which houses the college basketball Hall of Fame and interactive entertainment for people of all ages. .
The Power and Light District is a great place to explore and see the city. The streets are clean and well lit with beautiful lights. Side walks are filled with tourists and local musicians enjoying food. The police are investigating the area for tourists. After the concert, places like India’s contemporary lounge quickly fill up with thirsty customers. The Power and Light District has special holiday laws that very few places in the United States have. By-laws allow patrons to carry their own drinks from place to place and have them on the streets within the district.
Retail shopping is popular in power and light. Cosentine Market is an upscale grocery store with many unique brands and fresh food prepared daily. Other shops, such as Jos. A Bank, MeMa’s Bakery and Sprint Studio are available to visitors.
The Kansas City Power and Light District has given this downtown area new, modern life. The big show attraction gives Kansas City a new look, a Midwestern town no longer sleepy, full of talent! Parking is a breeze, with all venues within walking distance. Hotels are located around the territory making it convenient for travelers. Come see why Kansas City is a “Destination to Watch” this year!
