How to Apply Gorgeous “Smoky Eyes” Makeup

Whether it’s a stunning night out on the town or a quiet evening out, a beautiful smoky eye can help you get the attention you deserve.

What do you need?

Depending on your makeup collection and preferences, you can adjust the supplies list accordingly. But in general I recommend these products;

Black eyeliner (It can be liquid or pencil, whichever you prefer.)

Black Eyed Peas shadow

Dark eye shadow (It can simply be gray or another dark color you like in your eyes)

Light eye shadow.

Black valley

Don’t get too caught up in the features or colors you need for smoky eyes. Companies will try to tell you the specifics needed to achieve this look, but it can really be created from a variety of brands and products.

What do you need to do?

First you will need to decide if you want a bold smoky eye or a fairly subdued smoky eye. I prefer a more tame version, so I’ll go through the directions to get the desired results. (Note that for more intense results you can switch the two steps by starting with the light shadow, then to the dark shadow, and then to the line. That order will create a bolder and less blended look in itself).

1. Eyeliner

The most common mistake they make with eyeliner is not applying enough to the eye. This often results in a line that is too thick or too awkward and not pleasant. So don’t be afraid to see where the eyeliner really goes. For best results, you need to line the lashes both inside and outside the line on the top and bottom lids. Don’t worry about the liner at all either. Natural stunner is good when it comes to smoky eyes.

2. Eye shadows

Use the black eye to add shadow and the liner to dig in further to make sure the black eye is completely outlined. . Now apply dark shadow from the mouth of the liner until just past the crease of your eyes. Remember to apply enough shade so that the lid is still covered, even when the bottom layer of shade falls onto your skin, and the top layer is pulled.

Apply a light shadow on your eyelids, from just above your brow bone to the bottom of your brow bone. How much you need to blend the light shadow into the dark simply depends on how smooth you want the transition from dark to light into shadow to be. A more dramatic look will require minimal blending where a more subdued look will call for greater blending.

3. Mascara

To complete this stunning look, try liberally stroking the mascara all over. The top and bottom lashes should be smoothed at different angles so that the lashes can be the fullest and longest. A final coat of mascara should be added to fit the rectangle. Don’t worry about excess mascara wearing a film around the lash line unless the excess is extreme, in which case it’s dyed in eye makeup removers can be used to easily remove imperfections.

Now that your smoky eye look is complete, add the rest of your regular makeup routine to your foundation and lips and you’re all set!
