What do you need?
A soft-up insecticide sprayer – Its worth investing in a new sprayer that might have some insecticide in it and you don’t want to kill yourself before you shoot your film.
Garden Hose – You probably need about 2 meters which you can cut for your usual house. Failing that, getting it to cut to a good length is useful as you can try different ones at different ends.
Fake Blood – A whole bunch of recipes to try out the blood category.
Gaffer Tape
Sponge – You will need to carve it into small pieces buy a cheap sponge.
Blu-tak – Putty type of stuff used to stick to poster.
Old Shirt
Step One – Cut approx. a 2 meter length from your garden hose reel. About an inch from one end you need to make a hole big enough to fit your little finger into. This is where the blood will be expelled. It was dissolved by heating it through the hose to melt it as it was very hard. It’s probably not recommended, though, as it emits these horrible fumes. It is best to do it in a well-ventilated place so that you don’t go out.
Step Two – Bung the end out of the hole using Blu-Tak. By forcing the blood to fly out of the hole instead of spattering the end of the tube rather than breaking it.
Step Three – Twist the spray nozzle from the Insecticide sprayer. Attach the unmodified end of the tube to the empty sprayer. Now work on your biceps! Give about 150 pumps. The first 100 or so should be easy, but it should be harder towards the end. All this force is stored as pressure and when he pushes all the force of the trigger, it is released immediately, burning blood.
Step Four – Gently pour about 20ml of your fake blood into the modified end of the hose. You need to reduce the blood mixed with water to reduce that ‘gloopy’ (err… that sounds technical). The sides of the hole are filled with pieces of sponge. It is best to use a red sponge to make this fly, when you spray the face like a meat cleaver. Mmm… nice!
Step Five – Make a hole in the back of the shirt and feed the tube over the actor’s shoulder and up to the area that will be the ‘shot’. Tape the pipe is placed at the front with the hole on the side at the front. A LITTLE HEAVY!!!: Have the actor kneel down and get an assistant to spray as much as possible for 30 seconds. Here he allows the blood to flow and the first tube. The blood is now all retained in the last part of the sponge tube.
Step Six – Here the coat is prepared with an iron. He lined the hole of the side boots with the hole of the shirt. Use gaffer’s tape on the inside of the shirt to close the shirt up.
Step seven – Have a helper trigger the fire, shot from the chamber to the ground. When positioning the camera, be careful. You don’t want blood all over the room. If you’re right, get a good distance and zoom in.
Step Eight – Push the trigger!! Ker-BLAM!! Blood is flying everywhere. Gore city!
